It goes without saying that the Jeep brand is the founder and inspiration of SUVs around the world. Here's the top 5 reasons why you need to cherish the Jeep launch in India!

The Jeep history can be traced back to the 1940s, when the U.S Army asked 139 manufacturers across the globe to build a General Purpose vehicle for them. Willy's GP or Jeep (slang) was the most popular one, and soon, the Jeep brand was born. Giving birth to the popular 4-wheel drive cars, which today are known as the Sports Utility Vehicles, or SUV, Jeep has made a deep impact in the history of automobiles.

Even the brand like Land Rover followed Jeep to launch their own version of SUVs to serve the British military. Jeep brand has been owned by many companies over the years, but the most prominent one is the current owner - the Fiat Chrysler Alliance company. Now that Fiat has brought the iconic brand in India, Jeep lovers will surely be looking forward to own a piece of history!

The engine of all the Jeeps is a major talking and the reason it can do, what it does best. The Wrangler is launched with a 2.8-litre diesel engine that produces 200 horses and is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The Grand Cherokee, on the other hand, has two engine options - a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine powering the Grand Cherokee Limited and Summit variants and a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 petrol engine powering the Grand Cherokee SRT. The V6 produces 240 HP and the massive V8 produces 475 HP of raw power and can go from 0-100 kmph in 5 seconds.

Now this is what Jeeps are originally meant for and made for! The Jeep is credited with being the inventor of the 4-wheel drive mass produced cars, which were later called the SUVs. And so, the Jeep is a more than capable off-roader, thanks to the brilliant 4*4 systems and all the latest gadgets. All the three Cherokee variants are mated to a Quadratrack-2 four wheel drive system, while the Wrangler is available with a standard four-wheel drive system with heavy duty solid axles and a lockable centre console.

Apart from this, the legendary Jeep's off-roading capability improves with the Selec-Terrain® traction control system, which can select from gravel, mud, snow etc and Quadra track II to tackle weather conditions. The eight-speed automatic transmission allows for a crawl ratio of 44.1:1 to help in a smooth off-roading function.

Another plus point of owning a Jeep brand is the safety features incorporated in every Jeep model. The Wrangler Unlimited for instance, comes with a wide range of safety and security features, including the advanced multistage front airbags that help provide occupant protection by matching airbag output to impact severity, available side-supplemental airbags with sensor detection, body-on-frame construction, an on-road/off-road four-wheel disc Antilock Brake System (ABS), Brake Assist and more. What's more, the body is designed to save the occupants from high impact crashes.

Last but not the least is the luxury and comfort that the Jeep offers to its occupants. Don't for a second think that being an SUV and off-roading machine, it is rough on ride and doesn't offer luxury. Once inside any of the Jeep, be it the Wrangler or be it the Grand Cherokee, you will realize, it's no less than some of the premium SUVs available.

Some of the noted features include-

·         Ventilated front Nappa leather-trimmed heated seats

·         8.4 touchscreen - 20.32 cms (8.0-inch) radio/MP3/USB port

·         Rear Blu-rayentertainment system

·         Dual Pane Command view® Panoramic Sunroof

So now that you know why Jeep is special, go and book yourself a piece of history!
