Every nation head needs security that can withstand attacks from AK-47s and bombs. The current hot topic is "The Beast - America's President Barack Obama" car before his visit to India. Surely, Obama's car is more powerful and expensive but also heavier than our own Prime Minister Narendra Modi's humbled BMW, which is more agile and fast to drive around. Here is a quick comparison of the two.
Mr. Narendra Modi's choice of car had been Mahindra Scorpio while he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Even after getting elected and before taking the oath as Prime Minister, he travelled in a Scorpio. But Special Protection Group (SPG) rejected the Mahindra and chose BMW because of safety and security reasons.
No doubt American president's fully armoured Cadillac catches one's eyes, but our Prime Minister also enjoys the special security edition car by BMW. The car given to the most powerful man of the country is the 760Li High Security Edition, which looks similar to the 745Li. The 760Li is powered by a 6.0-lutre twelve-cylinder engine (V12) that produces 544bhp at 5250 rpm and a Torque of 750Nm at 1500rpm. It uses an 8-speed-automatic-transmission, and this special edition BMW accelerates from 0-100kmph in mere 6.2 seconds with a top-speed of 210kmph.
The 760Li is fully compliant with VR7 grade of ballistic protection. Even the transparent and non-transparent area adhere to VR9 grade of protection. From outside, it may appear to be a normal 7 series, but the armour plates are made of "incredibly strong special steel" that fits the body like a second skin. The car is designed to hold out attacks with explosives or armour-piercing weapons. It also protects occupants from a fire in the engine compartment or under the car. Safety features also include on-board fire-fighting system, emergency exit, emergency fresh-air system, run-flat tyres, a self-sealing fuel tank, and an attack alarm.
