All you need to know about the most popular concept of the AutoExpo 2016, the TVS Akula 310

Snapshot: The TVS Akula 310 was among one of the most talked about motorcycle concepts of the AutoExpo 2016, here is all you need to know about it. Read on.

This year’s AutoExpo came with a lot of surprises and unveils but if there is one bike we shall give the crown for being the most electrifying of them all then it’s none other than the TVS Akula 310. It has been almost 33 years for TVS to be a factory racing team and to celebrate this long racing heritage TVS decided to come up with an atom bomb that looks ready to takedown anything and everything close to it.

The bike has been built in close coordination with TVS’s new partner, BMW Motorrad and from any angle the bike looks no less than a supersport and being powered with the same engine as its naked cousin the BMW G310 R, it also comes with promising power figures as well.

The word ‘Akula’ has been taken from the Russian dictionary and it means Shark in that language. And we won’t deny, Akula’s design does reminds of the sea predator, isn’t it? It’s sharp, it’s aerodynamic, it’s precise, it’s heavenly designed and looks like it is the best concept ever came out from an Indian firm.

Talking about the engine, the bike propels the same engine as the BMW G310 R and it can be said as the faired version of the same. It is a 313cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which is good enough to churn out a healthy 34bhp of maximum power at 9,500rpm and 28Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm. As TVS says, it is a heavily tuned unit which also has a forced air fed air box that complements its high rev peak capability. The engine comes mated to a six-speed transmission box and promises to be fire cracker.

This engine has been built by BMW in their Munich facility and last year the company tested the engine extensively to make sure that it does what it has been made to do.

The concept’s body was completely built with the carbon fibre that promises the bike a light weight for the concept atleast as we don’t really hope this carbon fibre work will make into the production version of the bike.

The bike has been loaded with goodies such as USD forks, radial calipers, highly stiff space frame chassis, aluminium sub frame, digital console, on board gyro cameras, a steering damper and cast alloy swing arm. Though the specs and technicalities hasn’t been revealed by the manufacturer but we are sure this package when turned into production will surely give a stiff competition to its biggest rival the KTM 390 Duke. Well as for now, nothing concrete can be said about the pricing but we are sure it will be somewhere in between INR 2.3 to 2.5 Lakh.
