The Austrian motorcycle maker, KTM is all set to launch the new age 390 Duke and 200 Duke in the Indian market on 23rd February. The 2017 KTM 390 Duke has been updated from inside out, the engine remains the same as the earlier unit for obvious reasons but most other things have been updated. The new 390 Duke apart from looking more menacing also comes with new ride-by-wire technology which is only seen in high-end bikes until now.
In terms of visuals, it’s hard to figure out this is just a 375cc machine as the looks have transformed heavily. It still has the same 373.2cc DOHC single-cylinder engine. It has the same power figure of 43bhp but torque is up by 1 Nm and now sits at 36 Nm. What’s new in the engine is that it now has a 3-way catalytic converter and balancer shaft for a smoother ride.
There is nothing much on the new bike that reminds of the old one. In fact, the new 390 Duke looks very similar to the big daddy 1290 SuperDuke as it has received all the new visual updates that take it a step closer to the latter. At the front, the bike has received new twin split headlight just like the SuperDuke. It also gets a new TFT display that also has phone connectivity feature which also enables you to pick up phone calls and much more. There are also new power modes on the bike that enables it to be driven in 3 different modes according to the different terrain condition.
The company has also given the new 390 Duke a refreshed subframe, new seats, adjustable levers and a bigger 13.5lt of the fuel tank to maximize the range.
The new bike is also supposed to be greener in terms of emissions as the company has carried major mechanical upgrades to make the bike Euro-4 compliant. The old underbelly exhaust has also been replaced by the new side kitted exhaust in the process of making the bike environmental friendly.
The company has also added a bigger front disc as it now has a 320mm disc plate as opposed to smaller 300mm disc seen on previous generation bike. On the suspension front, it has been upgraded with New 43 mm open-cartridge front forks developed by WP Suspension. Be it visual, electronic or mechanical front, the new 2017 KTM 390 Duke has been meticulously updated with the best of all worlds.
Dimensionally there are a couple of changes such as the bike now weighs 10kgs more, is 15mm higher in terms of ground clearance (replacement of the underbelly exhaust), higher seated and has a shorter wheelbase as well.
It is expected to be launched at a price of Rs 2 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) and at this price, there is absolutely nothing that can even come close to this machine. At this price, it is completely potent to shame hand full of middleweight bikes in terms of mind-boggling street or track performance. Can you name 3 middleweight bikes present in the Indian market which comes with all three ABS, Slipper clutch and ride-by-wire technology? We reckon, there are not many. And you’ll have to shell out at least half a million Rupees to buy a machine with these electronics.
The 1290 SuperDuke is considered to be one of the freakiest looking naked bikes present in the market, and for everyone who dreams of the 1290 but has holes burnt pockets, the new 390 Duke will be the best possible package.
Enjoy the awesome the video below as you wait for the bike to get launched.
