ASSOCHAM organised a special conference on “Safe Road-Safe Life” in Delhi yesterday. During the Conference yesterday, Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai shared his concern and future plans for managing Delhi city traffic. He laid stress on spreading awareness regarding the same and announced the 'Ab Bus karen Jan Parivahan -Swasthya Jeevan' initiative, which includes cycling from India Gate to Red Fort on October 22 in the early hours time to avoid Ramleela rush.
He also discussed about new projects that will be undertaken by the Delhi Government that includes introducing a fleet of super luxury buses for the office goers who are willing to opt for public transport. Apart from this ‘one-family-one-car’ concept was also the hot topic of discussion to reduce growing burden on Delhi roads. Rai also added, “We will use hoarding, banners, pamphlets, nukkad nataks to promote the campaign on social media to make it a success".
Apart from this special focus was given on the pedestrian’s safety as it is observed that pedestrians are one of the main causes of accidents on busy roads and nearly 45% are the pedestrians who died on the road accidents. Lack of foot-over bridges and subways results in pedestrian hurrying through and causing inconvenience/accidents on busy roads.
Dr. Muktesh Chander (IPS), Special Commissioner (Traffic) Delhi Police told how important it is to follow traffic rules which can make a difference between life and death. He highlighted the importance of properly constructed foot-over bridges and footpaths for the safety of Pedestrians.
