SUVs promise macho looks, great road presence and lots of room and if you are in the market for an SUV with a budget of around Rs 30 lakh then there are plenty of good options out there. Check these three that we have shortlisted as the best buys in a crowded segment.
The Fortuner has been a huge hit in India ever since its launch and not without reason. The solid road presence it gets is loved by most SUV buyers. Then there is the 3-litre turbo diesel engine. It has around 167bhp of power and 343Nm of torque, along with a 4x4 option, which means it has the go anywhere ability that few other SUVs possess in this segment. But the best part about the SUV remains the fact that it can seat seven occupants in a nice and luxurious cabin which comes with plenty of bells and whistles to keep the passengers happy on those long journeys. Also, being a Toyota means that reliability is very good and if something does go wrong, it will not cost the earth to fix it. Another plus of being a Toyota is the fact that resale values will be strong, so when you want to buy a new car, the Fortuner will give you a decent amount back. All in all, you just can’t go wrong with the Fortuner.
The Pajero name is easily one of the most respected in SUV circles around the world and the Pajero Sport is one of the most practical SUVs in India with ample room all across the cabin. The cabin materials used are probably the best at this price point on any SUV. It comes with a thoroughly modern, common-rail-diesel-engine. The 2.5-litre engine makes around 176bhp of power. The engine is supreme on refinement making the cabin a very quiet place to be in. Another USP of the car is Mitsubishi’s ‘Super Select’ transfer case allows you to shift from two-wheel drive high to four-wheel drive high on the move (upto speeds as high as 100kph). The car comes loaded with equipment too. You get climate control, leather seats, alloy wheels and a lot more.
The Q3S is currently the cheapest way to get into an Audi SUV. It has the same 2-litre diesel engine which makes 144bhp as the regular car but comes with a manual gearbox, no LED lamps and a much plainer looking cabin as well. But there is no dearth of talent. Just like most Audi’s, cabin quality is top notch and there are plenty of features to keep you occupied with. The diesel engine is one of the punchiest in its class and the six-speed manual gearbox is easy to operate. You get two rows of seats with ample legroom as well. But it isn’t as large as most other SUVs, which means that this car is ideal for town travel and will be good for those who love driving themselves. If you want a posh SUV within a Rs 30 lakh budget you have few better choices than the Q3S.
