Bike of the Week – Aprilia RSV4 RF

Snapshot: We are back with our bike of the week article and this time we are writing on Aprilia RSV4.

The Italians are famous for making motorcycles with world class engineering and art. The passion and love the Italian possess for motorcycles is incomparable. Aprila, a world renowned motorcycle brand came up with one of the most iconic superbikes of all time, the RSV4 in 2009. Not only is it among the most powerful superbikes of world but till time it has also won four manufacturer and three rider titles in World Superbike competition.

Aprilia introduced two different 2016 RSV4s, the RR and the limited-edition RF, of which only 500 will be made. The new model is based on the similar platform as earlier but carries less weight more power, better handling, and a more sophisticated electronics package. Speaking of the motorcycle’s technicalities it utilises a 999.6cc, Aprilia longitudinal 65° V-4 cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid cooling system, double overhead camshafts (DOHC) engine which churns out more than 200bhp of monstrous power at 1300rpm. Yes! We mean it, just imagine unleashing this much power just on a twist of throttle. While the engine generates 115Nm of maximum torque at 8,500rpm.

RSV4 RF is a technical marvel, it is equipped with highly advanced APRC System (Aprilia Performance Ride Control), which includes Traction Control (ATC), Wheelie Control (AWC), Launch Control (ALC) and best part of it is that configuration and deactivation of all of these can be done independently. On the front, the bike is equipped with Sachs Forks with a wheel travel of 120mm at the front and a Sachs monoshock adjustable in: hydraulics in rebound damping and compression, spring preload, centre-to-centre length, with a wheel travel 130 mm at the rear.

One of the most important part of a motorcycle is the braking and speaking of RSV4 RF it utilizes a Dual 320-mm diameter floating stainless steel disc with lightweight stainless steel rotor and aluminium flange with 6 pins at the front and 220 mm diameter disc; Brembo calliper with two Ø 32 mm separate pistons at the rear. Being such a powerful machine, it weighs only 180kgs and that is one of the best performance factor as it excels in power to weight ratio. It is equipped with 120/70ZR-17 radial tyre at the front and 200/55ZR-17 tyre at the rear. RSV4 is already an outstanding product and Aprila just made it better by improving on many things.
