Ford EcoSport Vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (Design and Exteriors)
Ford EcoSport is inspired from the Ford’s ‘One Ford’ approach and is based on the company’s global B platform. The car has very modern styling, looks sporty and stands out distinctively. The SUV showcases an octagonal grille and large bumper. High mounted headlights, masculine creases over the bonnet and prominent wheel arches bring out the modern styling and sporty looks of the SUV and make it stand out distinctively. The spare wheel mounted on the rear door is what shows the true personality of an SUV.
The base variants come with 15-inches alloy wheels and the Titanium version of the EcoSport comes with 16-inches alloy wheels standard. The ground clearance of 200mm prevents the car from getting scratches underneath from speed breakers and this proveshelpful while off-roading as well.
On the other hand we have, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga which has the conventional Maruti design that is reflected by the front grille, long headlamps and bonnet. The fog lamps are fixed in vertical plastic shell on its large bumper. The headlights perfectly blend with the wheel arches. The large and heavy doors make its design look boxy.
The ORVM are integrated with blinkers but the rear lamps and tail design is slightly dull. To save the car from getting a typical van effect, designers have flared the front and rear wheel arches. The build quality is on upper hand when compared to Swift and Swift Dzire, but lacks with required stiffness. The roof is ribbed with an upward sloping roofline which provides rigidity to the car.
Ford EcoSport Vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (Interiors and Features)
The interiors of EcoSport are quite similar to its sibling, Ford Fiesta and along with it, so are most of their features. The features that exude class are dashboard, instrument console, stereo system controls and climate control unit. The front and rear seats offer ample legroom and headroom and EcoSport is quite a spacious vehicle from the inside with quality leather upholstery. The instrument console offers information like average speed, mileage, temperature etc. It comes with a good quality audio system, plenty of storage space, reverse parking system.
Although the space is 362-litre but it can be increased to a massive 705 litres by folding the rear seat. The 1.5L Petrol Ambiente MT comes with rear seat back fold down whereas the Petrol Trend has the 60/40 split rear seats. With Steering wheel audio system and SYNC voice control, the EcoBoost variants are also quite something. The Ambiente MT, Trend MT for both petrol and diesel variants miss out on the SYNC.
Coming to its rival from Maruti Suzuki, the dashboard of Ertiga comes with a beige and brown color scheme. The downside is that one needs to make efforts to keep it clean but the positive aspect is that a light colored theme creates a sense of spaciousness and makes the interior soothing. Seats are well cushioned and comfortable because lengthwise seats are long and have good under-thigh support and foot space.
The driver’s seat in its ZXi and ZDi variants is available with height adjustment option.Legroom is decent in the first and second row but the third row is very cramped. There are provisions for bottler holders, medium size glove box, seat-back pockets, a central armrest with storage space, climate control unit with rear and front AC vents, dial arrangement with silver detailing , engine temperature gauge, stylish centre console, power window controls and sound audio system with tweeters, USB/ AUX ports.

The award winning EcoBoost engine churns a power of 125PS at 6000rpm and produces 170Nm of peak torque in the range of 1400-4500rpm. There is an additional CNG variant available with the petrol version. Both the engines are linked to a five speed manual transmission.

The 1.5 litre DV5 diesel engine on the other hand is the most efficient and delivers an impressive mileage of 19.30kmpl in city and 22.70kmpl on highway. In comparison, Maruti Suzuki vehicles that are known for their fuel efficient engines with its 1.4- litre petrol unit delivers a mileage of 16.02kmpl on highways and 14kmpl in city traffic whereas its DDiS diesel powertrain offers 22.7kmpl on highways that drops down to 18kmpl on urban roads. In terms of safety, EcoSport offers an extensive list including ABS, 4 airbags, ESP, traction control and park assistance features on its top end petrol variant. The body of Ecosport uses Boron Steel which is pretty strong and is used even in the aerospace industry thereby making it quite reliable. Emergency Assistance, SYNC is made available top end variants whereas base uses Bluetooth connectivity. Parking Sensors are available only for the top model whereas ABS is missing from the base variants but made available from mid-level to top. However, EBD is missing from all. Maruti Ertiga comes blessed with features like bottle holders, seat back pockets, central armrest glove box, front and rear AC vents, power windows, power steering etc. In addition, for the passenger safety this car is introduced with some exceptional features like ABS with EBD, engine immobilizer, dual front airbags etc. VXi versions come with ABS and Brake Assist, however all variants have the anti-theft device.
Depending on your personal preference, there is a lot of difference between owing a Maruti and Ford especially when it comes to running and maintenance costs. However, Ford has progressed impressively thoug in the last few years. Ford EcoSport with its very aggressive price delivers everything that a conventional SUV should with a benefit being that it isn’t as bulky as a full grown SUV. On the other hand with a provision of three seat rows we have Maruti Suzuki Ertiga which is all in all an urban car. In comparison it isn’t as spacious and comfortable that you would wish a seven seater to be, but the third row seats make it a perfect outstation trip vehicle. There's isn't much of a direct comparison in between the cars, the Ertiga would be logical choice among the two only if you really need a car with higher seating capacity.
