The hatchback segment of the Indian car bazaar is the most flourishing one. There are so many cars but one that has been ruling the cathedra there is Maruti Swift. Since the time it was launched, it managed to fetch millions of customers in no time. But soon many contenders came to lock horns with it and amongst them was Ford Figo. With a sporty appearance and lots of features, Figo has been a strong competition for Maruti Suzuki Swift. Both the cars are offered in petrol and diesel variants, which further make them come neck to neck. Maruti Suzuki Swift exteriors vs Ford Figo exteriors
The exteriors of Maruti Suzuki Swift are impressive with the highlighting signature styled honeycomb mesh radiator grille. The headlight cluster on the front fits in high intensity halogen lamps, while the turn indicators are artistically done. The bumper is dipped in body color, and the fog lamps have a chrome outline to add the bling to the frontage. The side is enhanced with sporty alloy wheels with company badging. The base and the mid variants miss out on the alloy wheel and have black door handles and ORVMs. The top end trim has body colored door handles and electrically controlled ORVMs. Also, the rear bumper has parking sensors along with very chic tail lights.

Coming to Ford Figo, the exteriors of this hatchback are inspiring and sportier as compared to Maruti Suzuki Swift. The fog lamps on the front has exquisite finish accompanied by chrome finished radiator grille. The headlights have halogen lamps and the turn indicators are good looking. The front bumper has an arty appeal with the hexagonal air dam. The side profile has a classic feel with the alloy wheels in the top end variant, along with ORVMs controlled electrically. The high mounted stop lamp is perfect with the refreshed tail lights and smoky finished rear bumper.

Maruti Suzuki Swift interiors vs Ford Figo interiors

The interiors of Maruti Swift are comfortable and surely provide a luxurious feel as soon as you enter the hatchback.  The dual tone color scheme is posh and gives an opulent appeal altogether. The spacious rear seats are ideal and don’t ache the occupants all through the ride. The front cabin is loaded with too many features. The music system has Bluetooth connectivity that allows the owner to connect his Bluetooth device and let you play music through same without any wired connection. The multifunctional steering wheel has audio and Bluetooth controls. However, this one would be seen only the top variant. Also, the top trim comes with all four power windows, tilt adjustable steering column, height adjustable driver’s seat, and adjustable rear head restraints. What would lure you even more is the automatic climate control that aid you to maintain the inside temperature. The base and mid range variants has manual air conditioning unit, which is effective as well.

On the other hand, Ford Figo has interiors, which carry on its sporty rappo with all its soul. The spacious cabin has the similar dual tone color theme as Swift. The blue inserts on the dashboards, centre console and door panels augment the sophistication. The air conditioning system is competent; however, the automatic climate control unit is missing here. But the infotainment system is jam packed with CD player, FM radio and Bluetooth connectivity. This Bluetooth interface allows the user to play music without any wired connection. The multifunctional steering wheel in the top end trim has Bluetooth and audio control mounted on it.  The comfort for the driver and occupants is enhanced with numerous other functions. These comprise of removable rear parcel tray, electric boot opener, silver dipped door inner door handles, height adjustable driver’s seat, electrically adjustable ORVMs, 12V accessory power socket and more.

Maruti Suzuki Swift vs Ford Figo (Engine, Gearbox and Transmission)
Talking about the technical specifications, Swift is offered in both diesel and petrol version. The petrol one is fitted with 1.2-Litre K-Series powertrain with a multipoint fuel injection system. The DOHC valve configuration with 16 valves and 4 cylinders is perfect. This 1197cc engine is capable of churning out maximum power output of 83.1bhp along with 115Nm of torque. On the diesel front, the 1.3-Litre Multijet engine is on duty, which has a displacement of 1248cc. It has the capacity to deliver maximum power of 74bhp accompanied by 190Nm of torque. The mating of both engines has been done with five-speed manual transmission, which ensures a power-packed performance on road.

On the other hand, Ford Figo doesn’t dash hopes any way and offers the sporty hatchback with both petrol and diesel engine options. Starting with the petrol variants, it features 1.2-Litre Duratec motor with a displacement capacity of 1196cc and could produce maximum power and torque of 70bhp and 102Nm respectively. In contrast to this, the diesel variant of Ford Figo has 1.4-Litre Duratorq motor, which has a displacement of 1399cc. It has been incorporated with 4 cylinders and 8 valves and churns out 68bhp of peak power and 160Nm of peak torque. The five-speed manual transmission coupled with the engines comes in as standard.

Maruti Suzuki Swift vs Ford Figo (Mileage and Safety Features)
Mileage is one of the most important things that a consumers sees when buying a car. Maruti Swift comes out with flying colors in this particular segment. The petrol version of Swift gives away a stunning mileage of 20.4kmpl, while the diesel one pushes this figure to a startling 25.2kmpl. Looking at the stats of Ford Figo, the petrol variant of the hatchback manages to give away 15.6kmpl of fuel economy, while 20kmpl of mileage is given out by the diesel variant of the car.

Coming to the safety department, Maruti Suzuki has not taken it lightly and installed numerous active and passive safety features of the car. The dual SRS front airbags are present in the top end variant along with the anti-lock braking system. This prevents the wheels from locking up when immediate brakes are applied; also avert the car from skidding on slippery roads. The top trim also has electronic brake force distribution system and brake assist. The rear parking sensors is another high class feature that you would find in ZDI and ZXI variants of the car. Nonetheless, child locks, central locking system, auto lock, engine immobilizer etc. come in as standard safety features.

Talking about Figo, the sporty hatchback is loaded with a lot of safety features, which keep the ability to make Swift go green with envy. The top end variants of the car come with features like dual front SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system with EBD and BA. The passive anti-theft system is one of the perks here, while the rear defogger and programmable keyless entry are done to perfection. The other features such as 3-point seat belts, central locking system, and high mounted stop lamp are the regular features here.

Verdict
Both Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ford Figo are top-notch in its own way. On one hand, where Ford Figo has sporty exteriors and great pickup, but on the other hand, Maruti Swift like a roaring king takes away all the show. The car has excellent mileage, and definitely stunning interiors.
