Honda Jazz Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift (Design and Exteriors)

The Jazz is the chic looking car that now looks more mature and sharp. The cab forward design helps liberates the interior space but the car yet manages to look sharp and angular with the help of futuristic looking headlamps and the angular three part bumper at the front. On the sides, you would notice very strong character lines. The side profile of the car would make you notice how big it is. There are front and rear quarter glasses that find space on the car and help make the cabin more airy.  The back of the car has split, two part tail-light cluster which looks ultra modern. The back of the car looks sharp too and the bumper looks neatly designed too.

The Swift received a facelift sometime back and it maintains it original charm. However, the Swift still looks old and jaded in comparison to the Jazz. The car has characteristic large, swept back headlamps and a droopy nose which makes the car look very distinct. The sides of the car lack any character lines. The sloping roofline makes the car look very sporty. The rear of the car has wrap around taillights and clean looking tailgate. The rear of the car has been neatly designed too and looks flush.

Honda Jazz Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift (Interiors and Features)

The Jazz comes with all the bell and whistles that you would expect from a car in this category. There’s a two tone interior scheme that you would find in all Honda cars. You get the obligatory features like – steering mounted controls, 2-Din audio system, power windows, front armrest, rear armrest, a 6.2-inch display unit with multimedia system and navigation system. The cabin of the Jazz is very driver centric and the climate control system get touch sensitive controls (first in class). The Jazz also comes with paddle shifters on the top variant of the automatic petrol which are not present on even some of the higher end of the cars. The car is extremely capacious and has an immensely large boot space (354 litres) which is best-in-class.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is a decently equipped car that uses all black scheme for interiors with silver accents. You get an impressive 2-Din audio system with steering mounted controls for Bluetooth and audio, automatic climate control, power windows, tilt steering, utility features like door pockets, cup holders, ticket holder. The quality of the plastics and seats are impressive too. However, the car does not impress much with the equipment level that it provides. There’s a lack of display unit, paddle shifters, arm rests (front and rear. The boot space of the car however decent, is not as impressive as the Jazz.

Honda Jazz Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift (Engine, Transmission and Gearbox)

The Jazz comes with two engine choices  - 1.2 litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine. The engines are the same as found on other range of Honda cars. The petrol engine develops 90PS of power at 6000rpm and 110Nm of peak torque at 4800rpm while the diesel is capable of generating 100PS of power at 3600rpm and 200Nm of torque at a low rev range of 1750rpm.  The figures are more impressive than the Swift. The Jazz offers a 6-speed manual gearbox with the diesel and a 5-speed manual transmission with the petrol engine. The petrol engine also offers a CVT gearbox with the V and S variants.

The Swift offers two engine choices - a 1.2-litre (1197cc) VVT petrol unit and a 1.3-litre (1248 cc) DDis diesel motor. The petrol engine pumps 84PS of power at 6000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 4000rpm of peak torque. The diesel motor is capable of producing 75PS of power at 4000rpm and 190Nm of peak torque at 2000rpm. Both the engines come coupled with a five speed transmission. There is no option of automatic gearbox which is disappointing.

Honda Jazz Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift (Safety and Mileage)

The Jazz comes equipped with safety features like ABS with EBD as standard across all diesel variants. While the top spec of the cars come equipped with two airbags. The diesel variant of the car promises to offer impressive 27.3kmpl, manual petrol – 18.7kmpl, automatic petrol – 19kmpl.

The Swift comes with child safety locks, three point ELR seat belts, high mounted stop lamp, iCATS security system as standard across all variants. Features like ABS, twin airbags, security alarm system, brake assist, reverse parking sensors can be found on the top variant of the car. Swift has a set of frugal engines and offers impressive fuel economy too. The petrol Swift would return an impressive 20.4kmpl while the diesel Swift promises to return 25.2kmpl.

Verdict

The new kid on the block impresses with the sheer level of the equipment that it has to offer. You get class leading space and impressive engine choices too. The option of automatic gearbox with paddle shifters makes the package even more desirable.

Go for the Jazz, the car beats the Swift in comparison, by a long margin.
