Hyundai Creta Vs Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (Engine, Transmission & Gearbox)

Currently, Hyundai Creta is offered in 3 different power trains, one petrol and two diesel. The base and mid range diesel variants feature 1.4-Litre CRDi engine with a displacement capacity of 1396cc. It has the ability to deliver, 89.9PS power at 4000rpm and 219.7Nm torque between 1500 to 2750rpm. The other diesel variant has 1.6-Litre CRDi engine, which displaces 1582cc. The engine produces maximum power of 128.1PS power at 4000rpm and 259.8Nm torque at 1900 to 2750rpm.  Coming to the petrol variants of Creta, the car has 1.6-Litre VTVT engine displacing 1591cc. This one churns out 123PS power at 6400rpm along with producing 154.9Nm at 4850 rpm. All the engines are coupled with impressive six-speed manual transmission that sends power to the front wheel. However, the SX plus trim of Creta featuring diesel engine has six-speed automatic transmission gearbox option ensuring superb performance on road.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is available with two diesel engine options and there is no petrol. The larger diesel is of 1.6-Litre capacity and the DDiS power unit displaces 1598cc. This one is capable of generating maximum power of 119.6PS at 3750rpm and 320Nm torque at 1750rpm. This is coupled with the manual six-speed transmission. The smaller 1.3-Litre unit has a displacement of 1248cc and is powerful too and delivers maximum power of 89.7PS at 4000rpm along with 200Nm torque at 1750rpm. The engines are mated to 5-speed manual gearbox.

Hyundai Creta Vs Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (Mileage & Safety)

On the other hand, the 1.4-Litre diesel variant is very fuel efficient as it gives away 21.38kmpl of fuel economy, while the 1.6-litre diesel engine variants give away 19.67kmpl of mileage. In terms of safety, the Hyundai Creta is decently equipped. The six variants of Creta are built in with day and night inside rear view mirrors, anti-lock braking system with EBD and BA and lane change indicator. When we see the higher variants, they come with impact sensing auto door locks, dual front airbags, side and curtain airbags, rear parking sensors, rear camera, adaptive parking display, height adjustable seat belts and more.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is an exceptional compact SUV, which has been loaded with numerous safety aspects. All the trims of the car come with engine immobilizer, seat belts, anti-lock braking system and central door locking. Apart from this, the higher variants have been blessed with dual front airbags, reverse parking camera, anti-theft security system, seat belts with pretensioners, etc.

Verdict

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and Hyundai Creta both are premium compact SUVs and have been priced to appeal wide variety of customers. The design and interiors of Hyundai Creta are extremely impressive, while S-Cross somewhat disappoints and looks more like a big hatch and not an SUV. Technically, the S-Cross misses out on the petrol engine option and automatic gearbox too, while Creta offers one petrol and two diesel options, which are fuel efficient. We prefer the Creta over S-Cross simply because it looks like a proper SUV while the S-Cross might be capable but fails to make an impression as an SUV.
