Fiat Punto Evo is a product of Italian craftsmanship, the car bears no resemblance with the old version of the car. The new car bears 'Reindeer' headlamps. The front bumper gets a lot of chrome treatment and comes with integrated fog lamps. The bonnet bears four creases which further enhances the looks. The Punto Evo’s side profile is almost identical to the outgoing car. However, the new car gets bigger 16-inch alloy wheels and new wing mirrors with LED blinkers. At the rear-end, there are a few changes, the car gets new taillight lamp cluster and the bumper gets chrome inserts which are accompanied by the fog lamps and reverse lights. The top-end version also gets a roof mounted spoiler.
The Grand i10 which follows Hyundai’s elegant Fluidic design language is a well-designed car. The car looks beautiful and premium. The quality of the materials used in Punto Evo is top-notch. The base variant of the car comes with dual-tone interiors whereas the top-end variant comes with all black sporty interiors. There car comes with a tilt steering wheel, audio controls. The instrument panel comes with a tachometer, trip meter and features like distance to empty etc. The top-variant of the car also gets automatic climate control and rear air conditioning vents. Features like 12V power socket, digital clock, programmable speed limit buzzer, real time mileage indicator, seat belt warning light etc. are standard across all variants. The drivers seat is height adjustable, rear seats are 60:40 foldable which helps in further extending the 280 litres of boot space. There are not many large spaces for storage, which is little disappointing. The car also comes with Microsoft Blue & Me, Voice Commands, Bluetooth, USB, and AUX-in connectivity. The car is also equipped with speed sensitive volume control which is of great use.
The Grand i10 gets two tone black and beige interiors across all variants. The interior also gets blue illumination, which looks brilliant at night. Hyundai has used the space in an intelligent way and has put map pockets in the front and rear seats of the car for keeping papers and other things. The top variant Asta gets the leather-wrapped steering wheel, which feels amazing to hold and feel the steering. Multi Information Display or better known as MID brings information from the car to the driver at one place. There is a digital clock, dual trip meter and uncommon features like Average Vehicle Speed and Engine Running Time, which helps during long trips.
Hyundai Grand i10 has good audio system and features a nice 2-DIN Integrated Radio, Compact Disc and MP3 player. The Fiat Punto Evo comes with both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variants are offered with two different engine options, the base variant comes with a 1.2-litres (1172cc) which has a maximum power output of 67bhp at 6000rpm and a peak torque of 96Nm at 2500rpm. The other petrol engine 1.4-litres (1368cc) delivers 88.7bhp at 6000rpm and 115Nm of peak torque at 4500rpm. The power is transferred to the front wheels via 5-speed manual gearbox for both the engines.
Fiat's 1.3L Multi jet diesel (MJD) has been tuned differently for different power outputs. The entry-level and mid variants are tuned to deliver a power output of 74.9bhp at 4000rpm and maximum torque of 197Nm at 1750rpm. The top-end variant, sport, comes with the same engine which has been tuned to returns larger power. The engine returns an output of 88.7bhp at 4000rpm and a maximum torque of 209Nm at 4000rpm. Both the diesel engines are coupled with 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Grand i10 comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.2 litre (1197cc) VTVT petrol engine produces a maximum of 83bhp at 6000rpm and maximum torque of 114Nm at 4000rpm. The 3-cylinder diesel CRDi engine has a displacement of 1120cc produces a maximum 70bhp at 4000 rpm and maximum torque of 161Nm across a wide range 1500-2750rpm. The Hyundai i10 diesel engine is mated to a 5-speed gear box and in the top petrol variant comes with a 4 speed automatic gearbox.
Hyundai Grand i10 Vs Fiat Punto Evo (Safety features and Mileage)
Fiat Punto Evo comes with discs at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The car also comes equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Except for the base variant, the ABS with EBD is present on every variant. There are dual front airbags on the top end variant. There are 3-point ELR seat, the front seat belts are also height adjustable on the top-end trims. The diesel Hyundai Grand i10 offers an impressive 24kmpl per liter with the diesel engine and the petrol offers 18.9kmpl on highway. In the city traffic, the mileage of petrol engine drops to 16kmpl and diesel offers 21kmpl. The base and mid-level petrol variants of the Punto Evo that come with 1.2 litre petrol engine returns 15.8kmpl while the top-end variant 1.4 litre engine gives 14.4kmph. The 1.3 litre MJD on the base and mid-variants, yields a fuel economy of 21.2kmpl while with the top-end variant delivers 20.5kmpl.
The Grand i10 is a very accomplished product which has proven itself time and again from Hyundai. We have to give it to the Fiat that the Punto Evo is a significant improvement over the old Punto and has matured in every sense. The interiors are a class apart and have the best fit and finish. There is only one thing that does not work in the favor of the Punto Evo is the ‘fuel efficiency’ which is its point.
