Several car makers in India now offer cars in the very lucrative premium hatchback segment. In fact some of the car makers now have several hatchbacks on offer in their portfolio. Offering cars that are priced too close sometimes cannibalize products, therefore to avoid cannibalization, the car manufacturers do an analysis of the different models of the cars and the features that they offer with them. This is done to make the different cars models stand out in terms of features and the price point at which they deliver them.
We do specification comparison of the two hatchbacks from the Hyundai – i10 and Grand i10 and see how they stand alongside.
The specification comparison sheet has been prepared by comparing Hyundai i10 Sportz (petrol) with the Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (petrol).
Hyundai i10 exteriors Vs Hyundai Grand i10 exteriors
Looks of the car or things for that matter are a subjective thing and the statement stands very true when comparing cars like Hyundai i10 and Hyundai Grand i10.
The looks of the Hyundai i10 are striking without doubt, the sweptback, leaf-like headlamps have the sort of shape that you would not see on any other car. The bonnet, bumper and small grille manage to make to make the nose look striking. However, I would refrain from calling the car as beautiful. From the rear quarter, the car looks okay since it uses angular lamps, a sort of departure from fluidic shape that you see at front. The tall boy design of the car does serve it very well and does create more interior space for passengers.
The Grand i10 on the other hand with its sharp and straight line all around looks smart and taut. The design philosophy manages to make the car look in perfect harmony from all the different angles. The hexagonal grille and large sweptback headlamps at front make the car look somewhat aggressive. The roofline and comparatively lower stance of the car make it look sportier than the i10. The rear of the car has small and cute looking tailgate that houses the Hyundai logo. The swelled tail light cluster with chrome details looks great when illuminated. Overall the car’s short proportions work very well with other design elements and make the car look great.

In European markets, the i10 is no longer offered, the i10 grand replaced it. However, in India, the i10 is being sold alongside the Grand i10. When it comes to looks, the Grand i10 is the clear winner for us. However if you take into account the kind of equipment level that i10 offers, it is indeed a good car that eat into some of Grand i10’s share.
There is no option of diesel engine on i10 and the petrol engine is also of smaller capacity. However, if you do not wish to purchase a diesel car and find the i10’s looks equally good, you can purchase the i10 with smaller engine which also provides decent mileage.
