The race to attain the top position has been ever on and the competition among the two top companies – Maruti and Hyundai is tremendous. The Celerio is the latest offering from Maruti which was launched few months ago has done good job for the company in terms of sales. The hatchback has been designed by keeping in view the requirements of the Indian market.
In this comparison, we compare the specifications of the Hyundai i10 and Celerio and check how they fare against each other. The specification comparison sheet has been prepared by considering the Hyundai i10 Sportz 1.1L (Petrol) and Maruti Suzuki Celerio ZXi (O).
Hyundai i10 Vs Maruti Celerio (Design and Exterior)
Maruti Celerio is based on the A-Wind concept, the car looks aggressive, has swept back headlamps. The front face of the car looks somewhat like the Etios. The car is tall and looks really wide. From the back, the car looks similar to the Alto-800. The car looks more pleasing from the front three quarters than the rear three quarters.
The Hyundai i10 looks pleasing but may polarize people and one may not like the looks of the car as much as someone else for the reason that the car is somewhat unconventional looking from the front in comparison to the other cars. The i10 is a tallboy design. The car looks somewhat old standing alongside the Celerio and needs a major facelift.
Hyundai i10 Vs Maruti Celerio (Interior and Features)
This Celerio comes with dual tone beige and black interiors. The upper area of the dashboard is black and lower area is beige. The interiors are well crafted and designed in a very similar way as the interiors on other cars. The central console of the car is fitted with AC unit and control switches. Other features that the cabin includes are drink holders, ticket holder, steering mounted audio controls. The instrument cluster provides information like speedometer, outside temperature display, tachometer, door ajar warning, digital clock, fuel warning lamp etc.
The cabin space and quality is a strong point of the Hyundai i10. The overall quality of the interiors is good and the quality of plastics is decent too. The upward placed gearstick provides ample space for knick-knacks. You get two cup-holders and cubby holes in the front and rear. The buttons and console of the car come with blue backlighting which look terrific at night. The top of the line variant, Sportz, comes with all the features like - gear shift indicator, tachometer, digital clock, odometer and tripmeter.
Hyundai i10 Vs Maruti Celerio (Engine and Gearbox)
The i10 now comes with only one engine option - 1.1 litre iRDE2 (intelligent Responsive Drive Engine) which makes a 69PS of power and peak torque of 99.04Nm at 4500rpm. The bigger 1.2 litre engine which used to come earlier has been discontinued. The engine comes mated with 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio comes equipped with K-Series, 1 litre petrol MPFI engine. It’s a 3-cylinders engine with displacement of 998cc. The engine produces 67bhp of maximum power at 6000rpm and maximum torque output of 90Nm at 3500rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Hyundai i10 Vs Maruti Celerio (Safety features and Mileage)
The Hyundai i10 comes with front ventilated discs and drums at the rear, central locking, three point seat belts for all passengers and fog lamps. The car however disappoints in terms of more advanced safety features and offer neither ABS nor airbags. The top of the line, Celerio ZXi, on the other hand comes with 2 airbags as well as an ABS system. The ventilated discs and drums at the rear, three point seatbelts for all passengers come as standard on all models.
The i10 manages to deliver 19.81kmpl on the highway and 16.4kmpl in the city and Maruti Celerio perhaps due to its marginally smaller capacity engine delivers an impressive 22.0kmpl on the highway and 19kmpl in the city.
Hyundai i10 is a refined product that has started to show age. The top variant of the car lacks in all advanced safety features. It is the need of the hour that Hyundai provides a facelift to the i10 and change the equipment level on the top variant. The Celerio on the other hand looks fresh, offers a very generous level of safety equipment and looks very smart too. So far, for some reason, the car so far has not done as well as expected.
