The competition in the crossover segment is more intense than it has ever been before. The Hyundai i20 Active is the latest entrant in this segment and is indeed a very refined car since it is based on the Elite i20. Manufacturers have found a way to build more products by using their existing cars and we can see the results in the form of Hyundai i20 Active, Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross etc. We do a specification comparison of the Hyundai i20 Active with the Volkswagen Cross Polo and find out the better car.
The specification sheet has been prepared by comparing the i20 Active 1.4 SX Diesel with the Volkswagen 1.5 TDI Diesel and i20 Active 1.2 S Petrol with the Volkswagen 1.2 MPI Petrol.
Hyundai i20 Active exteriors Vs Volkswagen Cross Polo exteriors
The i20 Active has been derived from the Elite i20. The coil springs suspension height has been increased of the Elite i20 and the ground clearance now measures 190mm. Also, the car is visibly different and has redesigned bumpers at front as well as rear. The side of the car too has been modified extensively by the use of plastic moulding and cladding which gives the car its rugged look. There are roof rails, LED DRLs, projector headlamps and new alloy wheels too. At the rear you would notice that the bumper now carries a pair of brake lights which make it look different than the Elite i20. The overall silhouette of the car is not different and the body panels have not been modified.
The Volkswagen Cross Polo that has been derived from the Volkswagen Polo has an understated style and is indeed a very pleasing car to look at. The clear and distinct straight lines make the car look very well proportioned. There is a chin guard on the front blackened bumper and diffuser on the rear which make the car look sportier. The car also has cladding on the side which makes it more rugged. The roof rails also increase the height of the car. The ground clearance of the car though has not been modified and remains the same 168mm which is indeed disappointing since it limits the car’s usability in rough terrain and does not give it any off-roading capability. Every change that this car gets is essentially cosmetic.
