Maruti Suzuki showcased the Vitara Brezza at the AutoExpo and got quite an impressive response to the same. We as Indians, have a special place for SUVs in our heart. With SUVs getting smaller and easier to own, the battle in the segment has only gotten fiercer. The Brezza competes with the very successful Ford EcoSport which was infact the pioneer of this segment and seems to be doing quite well in the market. Maruti Vitara Brezza offers an impressive ground clearance of 198mm which is just short of EcoSport’s 200mm. The higher variants of both these cars offer roof rails, integrated indicators with the rear-view mirrors, 16inch alloys etc. What's worth noticing is that the Brezza is easy on the eyes and the EcoSport still looks more radical that would divide opinions. The Brezza also offers front- rear black skid plates and a dual paint option with top variant. You also get automatic headlamps and rain sensing wiper, electric folding & adjusting ORVMs with the Ford EcoSport as well as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.The EcoSport now offers revamped headlights with LED DRLs.

The boot space and length of both the cars is more or less comparable. The Brezza is marginally wider than the EcoSport, however, EcoSport is taller and has longer wheelbase in comparison. The higher variants of both these cars get chrome garnish on the outside.
Interiors and Features (Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Vs Ford EcoSport)
The Vitara Brezza gets audio controls and cruise control on the steering wheel and navigation supported by MirrorLink technology. In addition, you get convenience features like cooled upper glovebox, front seat belt height adjuster and mood light in the speedometer. Ford EcoSport also offers convenience features like height adjustable driver seat, lumbar support for the driver’s seat and steering mounted controls. The Brezza offers the height adjustable driver's seat but the steering can be adjusted only for rake unlike the EcoSport that offers adjustment for reach as well. The EcoSport does not get cruise control though unlike the Brezza which offers this feature with the top variant. Standard features on the EcoSport include FM/AM Radio, Aux-In, USB port and Bluetooth but CD player and MP3 player are missing in the entry level variants. On the other hand, the Brezza offers a Bluetooth enabled music system as a standard across all variants with Smartplay infotainment with Apple CarPlay on the top trim.

The Vitara Brezza is powered by a 1.3-litre DDiS 200 diesel engine sourced from the Fiat and is capable of producing 88bhp of power and a top torque of 200 Nm. Unlike the Brezza, the EcoSport offers two petrol engine options in addition to a diesel unit. The 1.5 litre Ti-VCT petrol engine on EcoSport belts out 110bhp at 6300 RPM and 140Nm of torque at 4400 RPM whereas the 1.0 litre, Ecoboost petrol engine develops 123bhp of power at 6000RPM along with 170Nm torque between 1400 to 4500 RPM. The 1.5 TDi diesel is the least powerful of them all and produces 98bhp at 3750 RPM but offers the most torque of 205Nm between 1750 to 3250 RPM. Unlike the Brezza which has a 5-speed manual transmission only, the EcoSport offers a manual as well as an automatic gearbox. However, the automatic gearbox transmission is available with 1.5 litre Ti-VCT petrol only.
Mileage and Safety features (Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Vs Ford EcoSport)
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza promises to deliver a mileage of 24.3kmpl with the diesel engine which is much close to the claimed fuel efficiency of 1.5 TDi diesel of EcoSport that offers 22.27kmpl. On the other hand, the 1.0 litre, EcoBoost petrol engine would return a fuel economy of 18.88kmpl which is better than the efficiency of the 1.5 TiVCT petrol motor that promises to return close to 15kmpl.
The Vitara Brezza comes equipped with driver airbag as standard across all variants, you also get safety features such as the passenger airbag and ABS with EBD with higher variants which is the case with Ford EcoSport too. The automatic variant of EcoSport offers all the safety equipment like emergency brake assist, traction control system, electronic stability control and hill launch assist with dual front airbags.
Things would surely get tough for Ford with the Brezza arriving at the scene.The EcoSport was the smart pick till date, however the Brezza would definitely put the customers in a dilemma if they find themselves choosing between the two. That said, the EcoSport is a pretty nice package that lack the novelty factor that the Brezza would surely enjoy for a while.
