Renault Duster has always looked smart and exciting. This car has a perfect blend of muscle and sporty looking exteriors. The front profile appears to be nice looking with its double barrel headlamp and tasteful body colored bumper. The fog lamps are positioned neatly below the headlight cluster. The side profile features ORVMs and huge wheel arches that house 16 inch wheels in the top end variant. The rear is appealing with large windscreen and high mounted brake light, rear defogger with timer and the tail gate gets a chrome strip accompanied by chrome finished badging.

The exteriors of Hyundai Creta are magnificent. The front profile has is built in with radiator grille in company with triple slat and sweptback headlight cluster. Here, the cluster is incorporated with bi-function projector lamps and LED positioning lights. Front bumper is audacious and the air dam is big. The athletic and attractive skid plates go well with the overall styling and vertical fog lamps. The side profile has bold character lines in sync with chrome finish on the door handles and the ORVMs with turn blinkers integrated in them. 17 inches diamond cut alloy wheels are seen in the top end variant. The rear profile of Creta is stylishly compact and the dual tone bumper with swept back styled tail lights make the rear appear to be close to perfect. The interiors of Renault Duster are airy but the design is unexciting. The entry level variant, RxE comes with almost all basic comfort features comprising of front power windows with lit up switches, power steering with tilt adjustment, keyless entry, cup holders for front and rear and foldable rear backrest. RxL and RxL Plus variant of Duster are endowed with the above mentioned features accompanied by audio and call controls on the steering wheel, height adjustable front seat belts, rear power windows, glove box lamp, reading lamps and electrically adjustable ORVMs and on-board trip computer. The air conditioning system is manual and has a pollen filter too. The better-quality multimedia player has Bluetooth connectivity with spontaneous voice command technology. The interiors of Hyundai Creta show the hard work of the designers. The car has been equipped with all possible comfort features, which ensure a very contented and happy drive. The alluring interiors follow the black and beige theme, which is further augmented with metallic accents in the higher variants. The top trim also attracts the consumers with the leather upholstery for the seats, console armrests, gearshift knob and steering wheel. The other variants get high quality premium fabric upholstery. The automatic air conditioning system in the top variant is the highlight, while the entry and mid range variant get manual air conditioning. The infotainment system is exquisite with 7 inches touch screen display, Bluetooth connectivity along with the basic Aux-in and USB support. Furthermore, the car also comes with height adjustable driver’s seat, low fuel warning, head restraints, four power windows, etc.

Renault Duster Vs Hyundai Creta (Engine, Transmission & Gearbox)

Renault Duster is available in petrol & diesel engine options. The 1.5-litre diesel is available in two states of tunes, the first one produces 85PS power and 248Nm of torque. The five speed manual transmission is coupled with unit while the other has been tuned to produce 110PS of maximum power and is coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. On the other hand, petrol models feature 1.6-litre k4M motor that generates 103.9PS power at 5850rpm and 145Nm of torque at 3750rpm. This motor is coupled with five-speed manual transmission.

At this time, Hyundai Creta is offered in one petrol and two diesel models. The base and mid range diesel variants are fitted with 1.4-litre CRDi engine that displaces 1396cc and have the ability to produce 89.9Ps power at 4000rpm and 219.7Nm of torque between 1500 to 2750rpm is impressive. The second diesel variant features 1.6-litre CRDi engine that has a displacement capacity of 1582cc. This engine produces peak power of 128.1PS power at 4000rpm and 259.8Nm torque between 1900 to 2750rpm.  The petrol variants of Creta has 1.6-litre VTVT engine displacing 1591cc. It produces 123PS power at 6400rpm along with producing 154.9Nm at 4850 rpm. All these brawny motors are coupled with remarkable six-speed manual transmission that sends power to the front wheels. Conversely, the SX plus trim of Creta that features diesel engine is coupled with six-speed automatic transmission gearbox option.

Renault Duster Vs Hyundai Creta (Mileage & Safety)

The one that delivers 85PS power promises a combined mileage of 19.87kmpl while the model that produces 110PS would manage 19.64kmpl of combined mileage. The petrol variants of Renault Duster deliver 13.05kmpl of combined mileage.

Hyundai Creta featuring the petrol engine delivers about 15.29kmpl mileage. On the other hand, the 1.4-Litre diesel variant gives away 21.38kmpl of fuel economy, while the 1.6-litre diesel engine variants deliver 19.67kmpl of mileage.

Hyundai Creta is a safe car. It is offered in six variants and all of them have been incorporated with lane change indicator, day and night inside rear view mirror, anti-lock braking system with EBD and BA. Coming to higher variants, it has been fitted with impact sensing auto door locks, rear parking sensors, rear camera, dual front airbags, side and curtain airbags, adaptive parking display, height adjustable seat belts and more.

Verdict

The Duster offers an AWD variant while the Creta does not. But is it really a deal breaker for you or not, probably not if you are looking for a car for driving around in the city and highways only. The Creta is superior car in terms of the equipment level and everything about it is posh. The Duster is very solid package that is let down only by its unexciting interiors.
