Renault Duster Vs Nissan Terrano (Design and Exteriors)

The Renault Duster has been cosmetically modified and the Nissan Terrano has been essentially derived from it. The Terrano is slightly longer but have the same wheelbase. The Duster looks more butch from the front where as the Terrano has a comparatively sharp nose and angular headlamps.

From the sides, both the cars look very same and have well pronounced wheel arches which give these cars very good road presence. The well designed taillight of Terrano makes it looks better from the rear end, whereas the Duster looks very plain.

Renault Duster Vs Nissan Terrano (Interiors and Features)

The badge engineering has been carried over into the interiors as well, the placement of the switches and design is very similar. Both the cars have well-made interiors and overall quality of plastics and switches is good and offer lot of space for knick-knacks.

The steering mounted controls are present only on the Duster and quality could have been better. Terrano misses out on the steering mounted controls and gets leather seats on the top variant, while the Duster gets fabric seats. The quality of interiors is marginally better of the Duster.

Renault Duster Vs Nissan Terrano (Engine and Gearbox)

The Duster and Terrano offer the same engines and technology. The cars come with three engine choices a petrol and two diesel engines. The two diesel engines that these cars offer have the similar capacity, however, they have been tuned to provide different torque and power figures.

The two diesel engines offer 110PS and 85PS of power and the petrol engine offers 104PS of power. The torque delivered by the petrol motor is 145Nm. The more powerful diesel engine offers 248Nm of torque and the less powerful engine offers 200Nm of torque. In our spec comparison sheet, only higher capacity diesel engines have been compared.

The diesel engines on both these cars are coupled with a 6 speed gearbox. The petrol motors on these cars are coupled with 5 speed gearbox. Since both these cars are essentially the same and offer same engines, you can expect similar kind of performance from these cars.

Renault Duster Vs Nissan Terrano (Safety and Mileage)

The cars are equipped with all modern safety features like ABS, engine immobilizer, central locking and parking assistance features. Renault duster offers ESP (Electronic Stability Program) which is absent on the more expensive Nissan Terrano.

The similar engines that these cars use and the comparable weights of the cars, the mileage figures are very similar too. The petrol variant of these cars offers 13.24 kmpl. The mileage of the diesel cars is very comparable too. The more powerful version of the diesel engine that powers Terrano delivers 19.01 kmpl and the Duster delivers 19.72 kmpl.

Verdict

Essentially, the compact SUVs we have compared are same under the hood and the difference between these cars is purely cosmetic. You may prefer to purchase the more expensive Terrano only if you prefer the looks of it. In terms of performance, you would hardly find any difference among these cars. The Renault Duster offers everything that Nissan Terrano has to offer and that too at a cheaper price tag.
