With the addition of automatic variant and increased engine capacity (1.0 litre now), the Kwid now has what it lacked initially and this makes it appealing to a wider set of customers. Should the well established competitiors from Maruti be worried? We compare the specification of the car with Celerio AMT and Alto K10 AGS and find out.
Renault Kwid Automatic Vs Maruti Celerio AMT Vs Maruti Alto K10 AGS (Design and Exteriors)
The Kwid 1.0 is indistinguishable from the base car other than the body graphics that it gets on side and top of the bonnet. I feel like putting an end to the debate outright by declaring the Kwid as a better car in terms of looks as it carries more oomph factor.
|Dimensions and Measurements||Renault Kwid Automatic||Maruti Celerio AMT||Maruti Alto K10 AGS|
|Length||3679 mm||3600 mm||3545 mm|
|Width||1579 mm||1600 mm||1515 mm|
|Height||1478 mm||1560 mm||1475 mm|

|Boot space||300 litres||177 litres||235 litres|
|Ground clearance||180 mm||165 mm||160 mm|
Maruti Suzuki Celerio looks certainly more premium than the Alto K10 and is slightly bigger too. The Alto K10 feels as if it has been designed keeping in mind the price tag for which it sell. The charming looks that the previous generation Alto K10 had are gone. The 180mm of ground clearance of Kwid is greater than the Celerio as well as the Alto which offer 165mm and 160mm respectively. Of all the three, Kwid weighs the least at around 660kgs. The Kwid has not yet been launched but it’s expected that the size of wheels would no change and the car would come equipped with 13inch wheels like the Alto. The Celerio offers 14inch which, without doubt should perform better in comparison.
Renault Kwid Automatic Vs Maruti Celerio AMT Vs Maruti Alto AGS (Interiors and Features)
We certainly do not expect the car to be extremely well equipped in this price bracket and they aren’t. The Kwid offers 300 litres of bootspace which trumps the other two by a long margin, infact it beats some of the other cars in the segment above.
You get the essential features like air-conditioning and power steering along with the storage spaces in all these cars. In case of the Kwid and Alto you get a music system with support for Aux-in, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The Alto misses out on the Navigation system which you get in the Kwid. The VXi variant of the Celerio, neither offers music system nor navigation system if you opt for the higher positioned ZXi, you would get the music system.
The Kwid uses an all digital instrument console unlike the Alto and Celerio car which use a combination of analogue and digital elements.
Renault Kwid Automatic Vs Maruti Celerio AMT Vs Maruti Alto AGS (Engine, Gearbox and Transmission)
The AMT gearbox is the highlight of the comparison and is present in case of all the three. While the engine is transversely mounted and drive the front wheels in the case of these cars. The AMT gearbox used by Kwid, Easy-R Gear Box does not offer a manual drive mode unlike the others which can be limitation for someone looking for a more engaging driving experience. The three modes (Neutral, Drive and Reverse) can be selected using the rotary dial present alongside the power window switches.
A five speed setup in case of all these cars should split engine torque evenly over wide engine rpm range for the car to use. The Celerio promises to return 23.1kmpl while the Alto promises 24.07kmpl. Although there’s no word out about the mileage of the Kwid Automatic, it’s expected that the 1.0 litre SCe (Smart Control Efficiency) engine should offer somewhere around 21-23kmpl.
|Engine and Gearbox||Renault Kwid Automatic||Maruti Celerio AMT||Maruti Alto K10 AGS|
|Engine capacity||1.0 litre (P)||1.0 litre (P)||1.0 litre (P)|
|Gearbox||5 AT||5 AT||5 AT|
|Mileage (Kmpl)||21-23kmpl (Expected)||23.1kmpl||24.07kmpl|
Renault Kwid Automatic Vs Maruti Celerio AMT Vs Maruti Alto AGS (Safety)
The Kwid offers only driver airbag option while the Celerio offers passenger as well as driver airbag along with ABS with the VXi variant. The Alto K10 disappoints and does not offer airbag with the VXi automatic variant. You get the seatbelts for all passengers, central locking system with engine immobiliser and child safety locks in case of all these cars.
Kwid’s price has not been revealed yet but it’s expected to be priced between the Alto K10 and Celerio. The car’s a winner on account of styling and what is offers an as overall package. The Celerio comes close and the option of manual is indeed better than full automatic AMT of the Kwid. The Celerio offers better value than the Alto K10 at slightly higher price but it’s worth it. From the initial impressions, the Kwid looks promising and it might offer the best value for money proposition when launched, but it cannot be said for sure till the time the price is announced.
