If we consider only the rear section of the cars, the Honda Mobilio is the better looker here, the Mobilio manages to get away with the conventional looks that MPVs have whereas the Renault lodgy struggles. The taillight cluster of the Lodgy has been nicely designed and looks good in isolation. However, the rear looks very bland and typically van like in its entirety.
On the front of Mobilio, there are almond shaped headlamps that remind of Brio and Amaze which share the platform among them. The sides of Mobilio carries very distinguished creases that lend a unique character to the car, make it look a part of the Honda family. There is large glass area that makes the car airy and roomy. The blackened D pillar gives the impression of floating roof. The rear end of the car looks stylish and large old style taillights provide a sporty look. The Mobilo is without doubt, one of the most Urban and stylish looking MUV in its category.
The Renault Lodgy is a smart looking car. On the front, there are large sweptback headlamps that adorn the face. In the middle, you would find a double slat grille with a chrome strip at the top which makes the car look premium. The bumper looks smooth and polished. The arrangement of bottom grille with the round fog lamps looks clean. On the sides, you would notice that there are subtle creases and chunky alloys that lend the car its unique character.

If you have been in Amaze or Brio, you would notice that Mobilio has the exact same interior styling. The first row of seats have tremendous amount of space. In the second row there is tremendous space and even tall people should not have any trouble finding comfort. The second row can comfortably seat three people abrest and there is an armrest too in centre that can be used in case there are two passengers sitting in the second row. The second seat has a 60:40 split and can be folded separately for the passengers of the third row which has 50:50 split.
The third row has space for only two people and it is not generous, just sufficient. The instrument panel of the car is similar to Amaze and Brio. The instrument cluster on the Mobilio has a black and blue mix which looks very premium and cool at night.
You get features like central armrest for the second row, dual airbags, mudguard, AC, four power-windows, central locking, tilt steering, front speakers, ABS, power adjustable mirrors, keyless entry, 2-DIN music system, navigation system, cup holders for 3rd row of seats etc. The third row of seats does not have AC vents unlike Lodgy which has AC vents for all three rows of seats.
The Renault Lodgy has extremely roomy cabin. The car is available in two seating configurations - 7 and 8-seater. The second and third rows offer ample space and head and legroom. It gets height adjustable driver's seat, while the 7-seater offers captain seats in its second row along with armrests. However, the 7-seater configuration is available only in the RxZ model trim.
The top variant of the car uses two-tone fabric upholstery with leather inserts which imparts an upmarket feeling. There is a 3 spoke steering wheel that has telephony controls, audio controls, speed limiter and cruise control. There are many additional features like sun visors, cup and bottle holders, storage unit, carpeting, power sockets, flight tray for second row of passengers, door map pockets and bottle holders. There is a touch screen MediaNav system that takes care of entertainment, provides navigation information, provides visibility with the help of rear view camera while the car is reversed. The boot space of the car is large at 207 litres which can be increased to 1861 litres by folding the 2nd and 3rd row of seats.

The Renault lodgy offers two similar capacity engines with two different tunes – The lower power engine produces 83.5bhp at 3750rpm of peak power and the higher power engine produces 108.49bhp at 1750rpm. The capacity of both the engines is the same at 1461cc, the difference lies in the states of tunes that they offer and the gear box. The higher power engine uses a 6-speed manual gearbox, the lower spec engine uses a 5-speed transmission system.
Unlike Lodgy, the Mobilio comes with petrol as well as a diesel engine - a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol. The 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine produces a maximum power of 98.63bhp at 3600rpm and 200Nm of peak torque at 1750rpm and the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol produces a maximum power of 118bhp at 6600rpm and 145Nm of torque at 4600rpm. Both engines use a 5-speed gearbox to transfer power to the wheels.

The Renault Lodgy with its higher power diesel engine manages to deliver 19.98kmpl and the lower power engine would deliver 21.04kmpl. The average figures are ARAI certified.
The Honda Mobilio is perhaps the class leader when it comes to average. The diesel would be able to deliver a fuel efficiency of 24.5kmpl on highways and 18.3kmpl in city conditions. The petrol variant should be able to return an incredible mileage of 17.3kmpl on highways and 13.8kmpl in city conditions.

Honda Mobilio has an efficient braking system since it uses disc brakes at front and drum brakes at rear. Other features like ABS (Anti-lock Braking System and EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) compliment the braking system. The top variant of the car also comes with front dual SRS airbags and front seatbelt pretensioner with load limiter which provides maximum safety to the occupants in case of a collision. In addition, you get features like auto door lock with speed, powered lock hand switch, immobilizer, central locking etc.
The Lodgy is perhaps the most well equipped car in terms of safety features in its class. The disc brakes at front and drum brakes at rear provide strong braking power. There are airbags for the front passengers, ABS (Antilock Braking System), BA (Brake Assist), EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) which further enhance the safety of passengers. The park assistance feature makes use of the rear view camera to provide a good view to the driver. Engine immobilizer, central locking, child safety locks come as standard features.
The competition between the cars is neck-to-neck. Therefore, the choice between these cars would not be easy. The Lodgy for its price, offers great amount of space and is a true MPV in every sense. The Mobilio offers a petrol engine too which perhaps make the Mobilio the most fuel efficient car its category. You cannot go wrong with any of these cars but you should consider going for the Lodgy since it offers more utility features and is better equipped too.
