Honda showcased the new Amaze at the 2018 Auto Expo. The Japanese car manufacturer has given the 2018 model a complete new look starting from its basic lines and silhouettes going all the way in the cabin and has also made some changes to the features list. It will be the first time that Honda will introduce a CVT with a diesel engine in India. The 2018 Honda Amaze rivals with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Volkswagen Ameo, Tata Zest and more. But, here the talking point is about the models that comes with diesel automatics and more on direct competition when it comes to sales.
Speaking of the dimensions, all the three models measure the same if talk about the overall length at 3995mm. However, it is the Dzire with a width of 1735mm and height of 1515mm that takes on both - the new Amaze with width of 1695mm and height of 1515mm and Ameo is 1682mm wide and 1483mm tall. As far as, the wheelbase is concerned both Amaze and Ameo gets 2470mm, while Dzire rides on a wheelbase of 2470mm. Based on a new platform, the 2018 Amaze gets an elongated bonnet, a wide grille and sleek wraparound headlamps with LED daytime running lights. Apart from its all-new fresh face, one of the prominent changes on the outside is the single sharp character line that runs across the length of the sedan. The Dzire gets a curvy profile and styling where as the new Amaze and Ameo flaunt more of an edgy touch.

The new Amaze will draw its power from Honda’s 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that interestingly makes 99bhp for the manual transmission and 79bhp for the CVT version and same is with the torque figures for the manual with 200Nm and CVT giving out 160Nm (reducing in torque figure is due to the fact that the higher torque on CVT’s leads to belt-slip). What more is added to the Amze is that it would be offered with paddle-sfiters also. The Dzire comes with the same Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine that carried over from its predecessor that makes 74bhp with 190Nm. Transmission options include the conventional 5-speed manual unit along with a 5-speed AMT. Coming to the Ameo, the Ameo develops 108bhp with 250Nm of top torque. And out of all, it is the Ameo that takes the spot on, in terms of power figures.

On the inside, the new Amaze looks more upmarket and spacious and to make the cabin more premium, Honda Amaze gets a dual-tone interior layout and will sport a new Digipad 2.0, 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay-compatible and comes with features like MirrorLink. More interestingly, the cabin is now more spacious than the outgoing model with more shoulder and head room at the rear. The new Amaze takes on its rivals with a huge boot capacity of 420 litres.
Similarly, Maruti made some dimensional change to the new Dzire and as the car is wider than the counterparts, you get more space for the occupants. Apart from this, the company has also added new in-cabin tech including a new touchscreen infotainment system which is now compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Dzire gets a boot capacity of 378 litres.
Ameo’s cabin on the other hand gets a good fit and finish, but losses out of space for the rear occupants compare to its rivals. Apart from that, it also has a boot size of 330 litres, smaller than other two. While it is the features list, where the Ameo define itself and comes packed with cruise control, rain sensing wipers, touchscreen infotainment system, to name a few.
Value for Money
Well, we cannot exactly comment for the new Amaze, but as it has received vital aesthetic changes, interior styling changes along with new features, pricing is bound to go up. Not to forget, the new underpinnings that gets more space for the occupants. Honda will price it very close to the Dzire, but will definitely give strong competition to its rivals with loads of features. And as far as the transmission is concerned CVTare smoother and advanced than AMTs. Whereas the new Dzire offers also offers good value for money proposition for the some buyers, if you are looking for good mileage and space as well. With the Ameo, there is a bit of compromise with space, though, it is feature packed.
