Hyundai Creta has been a much loved product in a compact SUV segment in the Indian car market. Since its launch, Hyundai has sold over 2,50,000 units of Creta. Whereas, the Jeep Compass just rolled every eye when touched the asphalt. Though, both Creta and Compass don’t have any competition, rather Compass lock its horn with Tucson. But, it is Jeep who strategize their pricing so competitive that the Compass’ base variant price for comes closer to range-topping Creta, still with a gap of around Rs 1.75 lakh, while for diesel it narrows down to Rs 1.51 lakh. Let’s find out the list of features that both these uncompetitive products, but still in competition, offer.

Jeep Compass is a head-turner when it comes to road presence and moreover with the design cues taken from the Grand Cherokee, you might be mistaken for a few seconds. Dimensionally, the compass is longer, wider and even sits a bit taller than the Creta. Apart from that, wheel base is 46mm more than the Creta’s. Although, it will not make much of a difference on the inside. While Hyundai Creta when launched was quite a unique design then, but hold it! That doesn’t mean, Hyundai is just sitting and doing nothing, the car recently received some cosmetic update and also now offer with a Sunroof. Sorry, but not even the top-of-the-line variant of the Compass gets such feature. But that said, Compass gives more of an SUV-ish appeal and Creta seems closer to crossover (if both stand next to each other). Both models do come with follow me home and projector headlamps with DRLs and compass’ bi-xenon adds upmore light in the dark, and for the rear, jeep also offers LED taillamps on the top-variant.

Engine options

Here, all the figures are in Jeep’s court, obviously excluding the mileage figures. Compass is offered with a 2.0-litre diesel that makes 171bhp and 350Nm, which undoubtedly more than Hyundai’s 1.6-litre diesel producing 126bhp and 260Nm.Though, Hyundai also offers a smaller 1.4-litre engine that makes 89bhp and returns a claimed mileage of 21.38kmpl (ARAI certified). The petrol engine does seem smaller, which is a 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo I-4 engine that cranks out 160bhp with 250Nm, which is way too much than Hyundai comparatively bigger 1.6-litre but makes power figures of 122bhp with 151Nm. Both 1.6l petrol and diesel engine are offered in manual as well as automatic, whereas, Compass is offers an automatic transmission with petrol and 4X4 capability with the diesel variant, unlike hyundai’s conventional.

Cabin and features

Slipping inside the Creta gives a feeling of premium seats and upholstery, if we compare other SUVs in the segment, but the Jeep Car is slightly even better. Front passenger space gives a marginally better sense of space, though Creta might be smaller exterior wise, but it isn’t from inside, Korean engineers have sorted it out very nicely. There are many features that Compass misses out such as leather upholstery, driver-side electrically adjustable seats, cruise control, cornering lamps, GPS navigation and moreover Hyundai offers 6 airbags on its top-of the line version, but Jeep’s loaded just two on the top spec. But, Compass still gets an important feature like traction control and the interior detailings seems much impressive than its counterpart.

Value for money

Like always, Hyundai Creta has never been an easy product to beat out of the sections. It’s a good bet for the consumers looking for well equipped and a value for money offering. Perhaps, Jeep Compass is for the who would love to feel Jeep’s 4X4 capability and premium-commanding product. But for that you might want to raise budget. Not a little, but almost an extra Rs 7 lakh should be lying around to buy the top diesel 4X4 version.
