Ford recently launched a cross-hatchback in India, named as Freestyle. Now this model has many rivals in the Indian passenger car market, be it cross or hatchback segment. In the standard hatchback segment, Ford Freestyle will directly pounce with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10, while in subcompact SUVs, it would take on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon, and in the cross-hatchback there are a bunch of them such as Toyota Etios Cross, Honda WR-V and the Hyundai i20 Active. But how about taking it with the new Swift, since this hatchback has been a charming product for Maruti. So here is a specification comparison between Ford Freestyle and Maruti Suzuki Swift.
The Freestyle is based on the Figo and has borrowed its design cues from the smaller sibling, with major tweaks to it, but the front face has been given a nice revamp with bumper, blacked grille and smoked headlamps. While looking at the Swift came out as an all new tip by Maruti when launched. There is no surprise that being in a cross-hatchback segment, the Freestyle is longer than that of the Swift. At 3,954mm in length, the Ford is 114mm longer (to be exact) than the Swift and its 2490mm wheelbase is also more than its counterpart. When talking about the width and height, the Freestyle takes on this slot as well and is wider and taller than the Swift. Buyers must know that the base variant of the Swift rides on the 14inchers and has saved 15 ones for the higher variants. The Freestyle sports raised suspensions and offers a good 190mm of ground clearance, while being a hatchback, Swift gets a ground clearance of 163mm.

As far as engine options are concerned, the power figures of the new Ford Freestyle hit on top that the Swift. Ford also introduced a new engine in the Freestyle. The 1.2l that comes from the same 'Dragon' family of engines. The petrol engine makes 95bhp and 120Nm of top torque while managing 19kmpl. The diesel is the Ford’s same trusted 1.5l TDCi engine that makes 99bhp with 215Nm, delivering an ARAI claimed mileage of 24.4kmpl. Swift is offered with a 1.2l petrol and 1.3l diesel engine that have been serving on many other Maruti’s. The petrol version produces 82bhp with 113Nm of torque, returning 22kmpl and develops 84bhp with 190Nm that returns a fuel efficiency of 28.4kmpl. Cabin and features
Freestyle will give a long list of features such as six airbags on the range-topping, traction control system, hill hold control, rain sensing wiper, in fact, Ford offers rear parking sensor on its base variant as well and these are some features are not on the Swift. But this doesn’t mean that Maruti doesn't have much of the features. Swift comes packed with two airbags, automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment, reverse camera, driver seat height adjustment, multi-functional display (unlike Ford’s electronic 2 trips) more are the most needed essentials which both cars have to offer (Available on Freestyle as well). And one more thing to add Swift does have a 6-speaker system against Freestyle’s 4-speaker system that performs excellently. The only thing that feels a bit aged is its conventional hazel head- and tail-lamps, offered across all variants and this where Maruti has not sit behind by offering LED lamps on the higher variants.
Value for money
Freestyle’s base variant is slightly pricier over the Swift due to a few additional features it has.but if you look into it practically, all the additions on the Freestyle make it a better proposition than the Swift. Though, Ford couldn’t manage to make more space for luggage, some extra features is what it takes. Moreover, visually Freestyle feels more grown-up standing next to the new Swift (younger-look), a bit bold appearance. So, what we say about the choices! That Swift is a better option for the youth, and being bold minded is all with the Freestyle.
