Mahindra recently launched its flagship model, XUV500 in an updated version that comes with a petrol engine along with a more powerful diesel mHawk 155 oil burner. Boasting new styling changes, the Mahindra XUV500 has surpassed its predecessor in aesthetic terms and takes directly on other top-selling rivals in the segment including Jeep Compass and Tata Hexa. Visually, the new Mahindra XUV500 has received changes to the front and rear with new elements bringing about a change to its overall looks. That said, it sports a new larger grille, new projector headlamps and 17-inch standard alloys.
Based on Tata’s IMPACT design theme, Hexa has a bulky look with a robust front bumper, a large front grille finished in gloss black and a set of projector headlamps.
The first made-in India Jeep model, Compass shares a strong resemblance with Grand Cherokee. On the outside, it gets 7-slat front grille, LED headlamps and LED tail-lamps.
Safety and Comfort Features
On the safety front, the new 2018 Mahindra XUV500 packs a host of goodies such as an electric sunroof with anti-pinch, 6-way adjustable driver’s seat, rear camera, 7.0-inch touchscreen, segment first smartwatch connectivity feature and six airbags.
Tata Motors’ new breed of cars offer a raft of features and Hexa is no exception. That said, it features automatic climate control, 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, 6 airbags, ESP, etc.
Jeep has loaded Compass with an array of features including a 7.0-inch Uconnect infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. Among the safety bits, it gets ABS, EBD, ESP, panic brake assist, six airbags, etc.

Barring the Tata Hexa, the other two models are available with a petrol unit as well along with a diesel unit. Putting out 173bhp of power, Jeep Compass offers the highest power. Talking of the transmission options, all the models are offered with manual as well as automatic gearboxes.

On the pricing front, the 2018 Mahindra XUV500 is the most affordable option amongst the three models. Tata Hexa is closely tagged at Rs 12.49 lakh and the top-spec variant can be had for Rs 17.89 lakh, which is around 1 lakh cheaper than XUV500’s top-spec trim. Jeep Compass is the most expensive option with prices ranging between Rs 15.16 lakh to Rs 21.91 lakh (please note all prices mentioned are ex-showroom).
