Toyota has recently made its entry in the mid-size sedan segment with the Yaris in India. With the introduction of the new Yaris sedan, the brand filled the void between the Etios sedan and Corolla. The Yaris sedan pounce with the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Ciaz in the Indian market, but considering its premium features, we will compare the model with the City and Verna. Though, Toyota Yaris is offered with many segment first features that might drool its rivals owner. but before that lets go through a whole of the specification comparison between these hot sedans.
Dimension
The dimensions difference between Toyota Yaris, Honda City and Hyundai Verna is not much when it comes to height and width of the models. However, Toyota Yaris 15mm shorter in length than its rivals, where Honda City and Verna gets an overall length of 4440mm. Apart from that, the wheel base of the Yaris 2560mm, which is 40mm shorter that the other two. Another point to talk about is that the Yaris rides on the 15 inch wheels, whereas the higher version of the City and Verna are available in 16 inches.

Engine
Mechanically, Toyota Yaris is offered in petrol engine only and there are no diesel options available in the Indian market, whereas its rivals gets an option of both petrol and diesel fuel option. Also, Toyota’s naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is under powered with 106bhp compared to the Verna’s 1.6-litre unit 121bhp and the City’s 1.5-litre engine with 117bhp. However, the range-topping variant of the Toyota is a bit lighter compared to its rivals, that means performance will not matter much in its mark and with the pairing of the engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox also ensures good flexibility and better mileage while cruising on highway. More interestingly, out of all three only Yaris and City are offered with paddle-shifters.

Cabin and Features
Here the talking point in the Yaris is the features it comes packed with. It is offered with a segment-best 7 airbags as standard across the entire model range. What else you are offered are Vehicle Stability Control, Hill start Assist and all four disc brakes on the top-of-the-line variant, Yaris VX. Whereas the City and Verna get dual airbags as standard and top-spec versions of these models get 6 airbags.
Talking about the features, the range-topping versions of the Yaris gets many first in segment features such as gesture control in the touchscreen infotainment systems, rear air-con vents, powered driver’s seat adjust, tyre pressure monitoring system, tyre pressure monitoring system and front parking sensors. Even if the Yaris comes with a feature-rich cabin, the Verna is also no less with its with its front ventilated seats that are way comforting if your car is parked the whole day under the sun. While the City, is spacious and is very difficult to be flawed if you are being chauffeur driven with a sense of airiness. Another thing is that the City and Verna are offered with sunroof.
Value for money
The price of the Toyota Yaris range between Rs 8.75 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.07 lakh, which is slightly above its main rival, the Honda City that gets a price range of Rs 8.71 – Rs 13.70 lakh. The base variant of the Yaris is Rs 4,000 pricier and the top-ranging automatic is Rs 37,000 pricier than that of the City’s corresponding variants (considering the features in the top-of-the-line version of the Yaris, the pricing closely matches with its rivals). Whereas, the Verna undercut the Toyota by a wide margin in the mid-size sedan segment, where Verna with a 1.4-litre engine is priced at Rs 7.8 lakh to Rs 9.1 lakh and the 1.6-litre base version goes high at Rs 9.8 lakh and goes up to Rs 12.6 lakh for the range topping version (All Prices, Ex Showroom, Delhi).
