Delhi to Chandigarh in a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire

Delhi to Chandigarh in a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire

Snapshot: Feel like going out and breaking the regular routine? We took the Maruti Swift Dzire to Chandigarh on a short weekend drive and came back smiling!

The winters are gone and the heat is shooting up. It is that time of the year when we need a break from our regular big city schedule and pack our bags for the short highway trip or maybe no, this is just an excuse to hit the long road. And you do not think twice when you have a trusty companion like the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.

This time we choose the Chandigarh city for our perfect weekend getaway as it is one of the places you can easily drive to on a weekend and make it back in a day or two. Also, the highway that connects Delhi to Chandigarh is one of the extremely well-made highways of the country with a perfect scenery that won’t get you bored on a 5-hour long drive and a number of Dhabas to keep your food cravings in check.

We decide to avoid the rush hour and start early by 6 am as it gets boiling past 9 or 10 am. If start early, you get to enjoy the first morning light and cold morning breeze which actually makes the highway drive a bliss. On the other hand, if you start late you have to fight through the city traffic to actually hit the main highway which consumes most of your trip energy and hence a lazy start. So start early so that you can make it to the destination on time and have a full day to do whatever you wish to.

The Swift Dzire handles the fast highway speeds pretty efficiently, it stays planted on the quick change of directions and is decently comfortable for such journeys. We were driving the top most AGS (automatic gear shift) variant of the car and hence had the convenience of an automatic gearbox. This gearbox might not be for enthusiasts wanting quick shifts but still does the job pretty well. The Chandigarh city is almost 250kms from Delhi and Swift Dzire Diesel impressed us again when we did the math on its mileage part. The car delivered around 22kmpl even when the AC was running in full swing so the car scores full marks in terms of bringing down the overall trip cost. The AC on the car works great too as it cools down the cabin pretty fast and even though it doesn’t have rear passenger AC vents, there weren’t any complaints about the cooling from the passenger’s side.

After an hour since we commenced the journey we started looking out for a place to stop and grab some lip smacking highway food. We decide to drop anchor at the Jhilmil Dhaba as it is one of the most famous stops when traveling on this route and one must try out the Aloo Pyaaz Parantha along with the Dal Makhani served here which is absolutely mind boggling. This Dhaba is a one-hour drive from Delhi and about 4-hour drive if coming from the Chandigarh side but that doesn’t matter, one must stop here it’s a ritual.

After satisfying our taste buds we gained paced and decided to hit the Chandigarh city without any stop. We made it to the Chandigarh city by 10:30 am and in not more than 4hour and 30minutes we were there. For those of you unaware about the Chandigarh city, it is one of the neatest cities in India and has been built in a very well planned manner. It is also at a central location before the start of the Himalayan range which makes it a perfect stop for people moving up to the hill stations like Shimla or Kasauli. Chandigarh city has a bunch of tourist attractions including the Rose Garden, Rock Garden and the most famous among them all is Sukhna Lake.

In case you are planning to drive to this city make sure that you carry all the documents and papers of your car with you as it is one of the Indian cities with the best traffic sense and highly active traffic police officials unlike most of the other Indian cities. After spending the whole day and visiting some of the best spots we decided to head back to Delhi the next day.

It was the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire that made the whole journey easy thanks to its superior comfort, easy driving dynamics and smooth and efficient diesel engine that undoubtedly makes the car a mile muncher. It is one of the cars that you should go for if you enjoy laid back driving, and loves occasional road trips as well. Also, its practical and cozy cabin space makes it one of the best cars for an average Indian family which seeks an easy on the pocket car with all the modern day comfort and features.
