When there is a discussion on UVs, one of the first names that crop up is always Mahindra. Mahindra has built up a reputation for being one of the foremost manufacturers of utility vehicles in India. Mahindra has an impressive array of UVs in the market. However, the customer’s preferences keep changing all the time. Therefore, automakers have to revamp their existing models or introduce new ones at regular intervals.
Mahindra is introducing five new models in 2020. Here’s a look at what you can expect from the Mahindra production line in 2020.
Next-Gen Mahindra Scorpio – The time and tested vehicle
Mahindra Scorpio has a loyal customer base, especially those with political leanings. The car has a reputation for being a sturdy one that can traverse the toughest terrains in rural India. Mahindra is set to launch the next-gen version of the Scorpio at the Auto Expo 2020.
Though the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio design will share the platform with the Mahindra Thar, it will get the same 2.0L diesel engine with different tuning, a more powerful one. The Mahindra Scorpio interior will have a more premium cabin as compared to the Mahindra Thar. It will feature a better design and come equipped with innovative features.
Next-Gen Mahindra Thar – One of the best off-road vehicles
Another vehicle that could make its grand debut at the Auto Expo 2020 is the next-gen Mahindra Thar. No other utility vehicle comes close to the Mahindra Thar when it comes to off-road driving capabilities. The next-gen Mahindra Thar plans to take it further with a better design, a modern platform, and a robust powertrain. The existing 2.2L oil burner could give way to the new Mahindra Thar engine, a powerful, 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine.
Mahindra TUV300 Plus Facelift – A revamped version
Compared to the other Mahindra vehicles, the Mahindra TUV300 is a recent one. However, a facelift version is due because of the upcoming regulations. The upgraded version of the Mahindra TUV300 Plus gets additional safety features and a tweaked styling package. Thus, the new Mahindra TUV300 Plus Facelift is a much better product as compared to the existing version.
Mahindra XUV400 – The bigger version of the XUV300
The Mahindra XUV300 is a successful model with a good image in the SUV market. However, there is always room for improvisation. Mahindra is introducing a bigger version of the XUV300 in the form of Mahindra XUV400, also known as the XUVe400.
Car lovers have spied this vehicle testing on the Indian roads. Thus, the official launch could not be far away. The Mahindra XUV400 design will not share its platform with the XUV300, as it is a bigger vehicle in comparison. The larger dimensions allow the manufacturer to pack in an additional row of seats.
One can also expect the Mahindra XUV400 to get a reworked 2.0L diesel engine that will power the next-gen Thar and Scorpio, as well.
Ford-Mahindra C-SUV – A joint venture model
Joint ventures are the order of the day. Ford and Mahindra have entered into a JV to launch a new SUV with features similar to that of the Mahindra XUV400. This JV product, named C-SUV, however, will have a distinct identity because of its different exterior appearance.
Ford will bring its expertise to the fore by offering more exceptional vehicle dynamics, thereby ensuring that this vehicle will be different to handle as compared to the Mahindra XUV400. The Mahindra C-SUV interiors could come with Mahindra’s infotainment setup and not the SYNC3 units found n the Ford Endeavour and Ford EcoSport.
Though the new C-SUV will launch in 2021, it will offer fierce competition to Kia Seltos and the next-gen Hyundai Creta. One of the critical aspects of the JV is that Ford and Mahindra will ensure not to encroach into each other’s specific markets.
These five Mahindra models could well, play a significant role in reviving the markets for Mahindra SUVs and ensure that Mahindra maintains its pole position in the SUV segment.
