Snapshot: General Motors won the Car of the Year and the Truck of the Year award with the Stingray and Silverado

The Detroit Auto Show is the talk of the town these days - everyone is talking about the cars on display. Some have an extra helping of chrome, some let you drive with no hands while the others boast to be a breakthrough in design. It is highly competitive. Every car manufacturer is trying to get the gold as the 'Car of the Year'. However, cars is not the only category that has a Muhammed Ali vs. a George Foreman. Trucks, etc. have a crazy fight going on as well. This fight, however was won by General Motors at this prestigious event.

The Chevrolet Stingray has been a hearthrob among crowds that like Grand Tourer racing cars. It is the 7th generation Corvette and is the first to bear the 'Stingray' badge since the 3rd generation. It features a 6.2 liter small block V8 engine which mills out 455 horsepower and can reach 0-60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds. The build configuration is front engine, rear wheel drive. The chasis has been designed with extreme attention to make the ride quality top of the line.

In the trucks segment, General Motors took the cake with its Silvarado being voted as the North Americal Truck of the Year.

Over the years, Detroit’s Big Three makers have won North American Car of the Year 12 times, while the Japanese have won it three times and Europeans four times. Korea’s Hyundai has won twice. On the truck side, domestics have won 14 times, the Japanese four times and Europeans three. The North American Car and Truck of the Year were chosen by a jury of 48 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada. The awards are not affiliated with the North American International Auto Show.
