Great News - With Dealerships about to go live, Ducati Imports Bikes in India
Snapshot: The Italian Exotic Motorcycle company imports its bikes in India and we are happy!
With the news that the dealerships are reaching towards giving their showrooms final touches, Ducati is about to begin its second inning in India. Marred by a disastrous relationship with their Importer in the country when Ducati first came in India around the AutoExpo 2012, the Italian exotic motorcycle manufacturer has suffered a dent in its reputation in the Country. Had the Ducati's venture into the country gone it's way, Ducati would have become a superpower in the market segment as it was one of the very first Big Shot manufacturers to enter India. Since then, Triumph and Indian Motorcycles have opened shop in the country and Harley-Davidson has penetrated the Indian premium bike segment big time with their super seller Street 750.
Reports are coming in that, reports from India’s import and export data website Zauba suggest that Ducati has already begun importing its products and spare parts into the country. The list of motorcycles imported in India include the Ducati Diavel Carbon, Monster 696 and Multistrada 1200. All these models have come via the completely built unit (CBU) route. We reckon that, Ducati will be bringing almost all of its bikes to the country, with the Scrambler poised to become their most important offering to the Indian sub-continent.
Although the Monster 696 has been imported into the country, however due to the import custom structure in the country it will be a tough task for Ducati to price a model like the Monster 696 competitively if brought to the country as a CBU. If we remember clearly, due to the structure of customs the Monster 696 did cost more than the Monster 795 in the country last time around. Also, the import of Monster 696 instead of the Monster 795 (which is an Asia specific Monster) seems a bit strange to us. All this is making us believe that Ducati might just consider setting up an assembly shop in the country, this would enable the Italian to price its products like the Scrambler , Monster 696/795 and the Hypermotard 795/796 in a price bracket which keeps the interest of the Indian customers alive.
With a sorry state first effort in India, Ducati needs to play all its card precisely to make sure it gathers back, the lost trust among Indian customers. Good thing for Ducati in India is that we love this brand and almost all of us has dreamt of owning a Ducati once in our lives and we will welcome back the Italian rockstar brand with open arms. We expect that Ducati will be declaring its plan for India very soon.
