How historic this weekend will be for the MotoGP fans?

Snapshot: For the first time in this season, a race will welcome a winner other than Marc Marquez.

When the MotoGP racers arrived at Brno two weeks ago, everybody expected the same to happen which had been happening from the last 10 races; see Marc Marquez winning. The weekend ended with Marquez's dream of becoming the only MotoGP rider to win the first 11 races of a season being shattered by his teammate Dani Pedrosa. Even though Marquez did not make it 11 in a row, Honda's record has been perfect so far setting a new record of successive wins in the MotoGP history from the time of its inception in 2002.

Last year at the same ground, when Marquez was enjoying his first premier class season, Yamaha's Lorenzo had won the neck-to-neck duel with Marquez by less than, believe it or not, one tenth of a second. Well, Lorenzo has another reason to give all he has this weekend. If he finishes at the podium this Sunday, he will become the fifth rider ever in the history of premier class racing to have 80 podium finishes. The top four riders to do so are Valentino Rossi, Mick Doohan, Dani Pedrosa and Giacomo Agostini.

The race of Silverstone also will make Rossi the most experienced rider ever in the history of motorcycle racing as his 246th race will surpass Alex Barros's record of 245 races. The race will also be special for 'The Doctor' as he clinched his first ever Grand Prix title exactly 17 years ago on the same date at Brno winning the 125cc class in 1997. Since 2000, when he debuted in the premier class, he has won 80 races, finished 154 times on the podium, claimed 49 pole positions, set 68 fastest laps and won seven titles.

British MotoGP has been taking place at Silverstone since 2010 when it stopped taking place at Donington Park. Rossi has never won at Silverstone, but won seven times out of nine between 1997 and 2005 at Donington Park. All said and done, we assume one hell of a race to take place on August 31.
