Hyundai Xcent Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire

Snapshot: Specs comparison of the Hyundai Xcent and Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire

The Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire is basically the new Swift with a boot. The car was of course expected after the launch of the new Swift and it came as expected. The new DZire now replaces the old one which first debuted in 2004. The Hyundai Xcent on the other hand is a completely new and is derived from the Hyundai Grand i10.

We bring you a specs comparison between Hyundai Xcent Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire to let you choose better.

Hyundai Xcent exterior Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire exterior
It has been almost typical of the three box cars designs that are derived from the hatch backs to look like a patch up job. We have very rarely seen an exception to this, one example of this would be the Volkswagen Vento which has been derived from the Polo and looks like a job well done.

Although, both the cars look bulbous, the Xcent has a better design and looks overall more balanced. On the front, there is hardly any difference among the cars from which they are derived. The Maruti Suzuki has made significant changes to the rear C-pillar and the way it droops to form a comparatively larger door, as a result, the cabin is more airy and gets more light when compared to the Swift.

The Xcent is very well designed, has tall shoulder lines just like the Swift. Both the cars have the exact wheelbase and it is longer than the cars from which they are derived. This should help in providing better legroom.

The boot size of the DZire has been decreased significantly from the 440 litres (on the outgoing DZire) to 316 litres. In comparison, the Xcent has much better boot space at 407 litres. The rear end styling of both the cars is not awe-inspiring and looks rather confused. Still, the Xcent has better rear styling in comparison.

Hyundai Xcent interior Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire interior
Hyundai has been consistently out-performing themselves and others in doing the interiors of their cars. The Xcent is no exception and it has a very pleasing cabin. The black color of the interiors goes well with the beige elements and feels premium. The seats too come with two-tone (black and beige) colour.

The quality of plastics used on DZire does not feel as good as the Xcent but the DZire’s cabin looks better just because of the overall black colour of the seats and dashboard. We preferred the front seats on DZire since they come with adjustable headrests unlike Xcent, in which the headrests are integrated.

Hyundai Xcent engine Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire engine
The cars come with a petrol and a diesel engine option. The Xcent has a 3 cylinder diesel motor which offers moderate power (72 PS @ 4000 RPM). However, the diesel motor on the Swift desire offers slightly better power (90 PS @ 4000 RPM). The petrol motors on both these cars have similar torque figures (114 Nm @ 4000 RPM), however the motor on the Swift DZire offers 10 PS more power that the petrol unit on Xcent.

Hyundai Xcent safety features Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire safety features
Both the cars have long equipment list. The DZire comes with ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, security alarm system, high mounted stop lamp, rear seat head restraint etc.

The Xcent too has all these features, in addition to them, it also offers Electro Chromic Mirror (ECM) for driver which automatically dims on sensing headlights glare from trailing vehicle. This can be of good use while driving on highways at night.

Comparing the automatic petrol versions, the DZire beats Xcent, the automatic version of DZire gives an average of 17.4 kmpl whereas the Xcent gives 16.1 kmpl. There is almost no difference in the mileage of the manual petrol versions, the Xcent gives 19.2 kmpl and the DZire give 19.1 kmpl.

The top model of Xcent diesel is priced at Rs 7.44 lakhs and DZire is priced at Rs 7.32 lakhs.

Verdict
Hyundai have come a long way since it first introduced the Santro. In almost all categories, Hyundai has set a benchmark with their products that other competitors try to achieve. The Xcent too is no different and ticks all the boxes right in terms of design, engineering and value for money.

The DZire is a refined product and Maruti has done an overall good job with it. The car comes very close to the Xcent and Maruti Suzuki gives a stiff competition. Check On-road price of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire
