Indian's biggest two-wheeler manufacturer - Hero MotoCorp - will enter US market next year

Hero MotoCorp is all set to enter the US market in 2015 and has started appointing distributors in the US. Erik Buell Racing (EBR), in which Hero MotoCorp has 49.2% of stake will be given the marketing duties of the brand.

Even though US market is full of much more powerful bikes, Hero will target smaller cities and consumers who use motorcycles to move within the city. Currently, the company is undergoing homologation, a process that certifies a product to be worthy enough to be on the roads.

Hero MotoCorp has assembly units in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in East Africa, and is planning to set a manufacturing unit in Colombia to take care of its Latin American markets.

Adding to the latest developments, Pawan Munjal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hero MotoCorp said, "For the developed western markets (US) currently, we are not that much focused on bigger motorcycles. Right now, what we are looking at is taking some of our current products and try creating a niche market. Last October, we had displayed some of our products at the motorcycle show in Florida and there was a huge amount of interest from distributors. Hero MotoCorp had announced in August 2013 its plan to enter 50 markets by 2020 and a target of 20 manufacturing facilities across the globe.
