Infographic - 50 years of Ford Mustang

Snapshot: Since the Muscle car has completed 5 decades, and is coming to India for the first time in 50 years, we decided to bring you the various generations of the Ford Mustang

If you are a huge of American TV series and Hollywood movies, you must be in love with the true blue muscle car, the Ford Mustang. The first Ford Mustang was introduced in 1964, and ever since its launch, America has gone bonkers over the car. And soon there was an intense rivalry between the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger and the Ford Mustang.

Popularly known as the 'Pony Car', the Mustang has completed its five decades in the industry and Ford recently unveiled the all-new 2015 Mustang. Ford also launched the Mustang for the right-hand drive markets for the first time ever in 50 years recently in the Europe. The Mustang is all set to be launched in India and will be present at the 2016 AutoExpo.

Well, the good news is, Ford Mustang is finally making its way to India, and we are extremely delighted over it. The recent media reports and spy shots has revealed that the American auto giant is all set to launch the first ever muscle car in the modern India, a segment which is still to be tapped by any of the manufacturers.

Ford is most likely to launch two versions of the Ford Mustang in India - a 5.0-litre mammoth and an affordable 3.7-litre V6 model, which happens to be more frugal and popular choice of the buyers. The 5.0-litre V8 engine develops massive 435 HP at 6500 rpm and 528 Nm at 4250 rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox.

This is the sixth-generation Mustang that Ford revealed in late 2013 and sells in both America and Europe apart from other left-hand drive countries. Ford is also offering a 2.3-litre Ecoboost engine for the first time in the American model. The Mustang was also launched in the coupe form followed by the convertible body type, though India is not going to get a convertible anytime soon.

And since the Muscle has completed 5 decades, and is coming to India for the first time in 50 years, we decided to bring you the various generations of the Ford Mustang- six to be precise, and show you how this car has evolved over the years.  So here is a list of Mustang cars through the time, making people realize for a Muscle car is all about-

2015 - Onwards: The 2015 Ford Mustang is seen as the most advanced, powerful and desirable Mustang ever. It comes powered by a 2.3-litre Ecoboost, a 3.7-litre V6 and a more powerful 5.0-litre V8 engines.

2005 - 2014: Probably the most successful decade for the Ford Mustang, the muscle car sold like hot cakes during this period. And since many movies were made with Mustangs in it, the design became much famous.

1995 - 2004: Personally speaking, this is the time we hated the Ford Mustang the most. The original Mustang design, which reflected the American muscle power was somewhat shadowed by the curves, which made it look like an ordinary city car.

1985 - 1994: Ford learnt from the mistake they made in the last decade and they revived the popular Mustang. The design was changed and the engines were revived to their full capacity.

1975 - 1984: The second-gen Mustang came as a surprise to many and Ford had to downsize everything on the Mustangs owing the global oil crisis. The engine was downsized, weight was reduced and the convertible was abandoned.

1965 - 1974: The Ford Mustang was first introduced in April 1965 with three body types including a convertible and fastback. The GT came with V8 engine options with either 225 HP or 271 HP power output.
