After a car crash, things can get chaotic. Following are some basic steps can make the situation and filling the claim a little easier.

Stop
Stop the car immediately if your car has met with an accident. If you don't stop, you are committing criminal offence.

Check yourself
Make sure you and your co-passengers are safe. If anyone is injured give immediate first-aid to the person.

Call the police
Inform the police if anyone is injured badly. Also call the ambulance as soon as possible. Do not call the police if the damage to the car is minor, for example, dinged bumper or scratched door.

Details
Give your details (name, address, phone number) to anyone else, who is involved in the accident.  Take down all the details (name, address, phone number) of the people involved in the accident. Take a photo of the incident (damage, location where the accident happened, people involved in the accident).

Stay calm
Try to stay cool and calm. Being in a car accident is scary and getting upset will make things worse. Do not argue with the driver or passenger involved in the accident.

File a claim
Call your car insurance company immediately after the accident so that the processing of the claim can start.

Witness
If there is any witness at the accident location, take down all the details of him.

Emergency kit for the car:
Make sure your car has a basic first aid or emergency kit in the boot. You can also create your own emergency kit with the following -

- First-aid kit

- Warning triangles or cones

- Flashlight and extra batteries

- Bottled water and food
