Kia Motors at Auto Expo 2018

Snapshot: It seems Kia's pavillion at the 2018 Auto Expo will be quite a kick starter with 18 models to showcase.

Kia Motors, a sister company to Hyundai will make its entry in the Indian market with its debut at the Auto Expo 2018 that will commence from February 7. Though, the Korean company would showcase around 18 models at the Expo, but that for sure that all of them will not witness on the Indian shore. Kia would target the starting from the hatchback segment to premium sedans, while we know that the Indian market will be the best market for the brand to be based that will be spread over 536 acres of area and producing 300,000 units annually. Lets see what all cars will be showcased at the Kia’s stable.

Kia Picanto

This is Kia’s current entry-level hatchback offering that would be the most anticipated product at the Auto Expo 2018. The Picanto was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show in March and fits perfect for Indian market as per Kia. In the international market, the Kia Picanto is offered in two engine options – a a 1.0-litre petrol that cranks out 65 bhp with 96Nm of top torque and a 1.2-litre petrol that makes 83bhp of max power with 121Nm of peak torque, where both the powertrain will come paired with an option of 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. It is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Grand i10 and will lock its horns with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Tata Tiago, Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Brio and Ford Figo.

Kia Niro

Kia Niro shares its platform with the Hyundai Ioniq, which is offered with a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicle globally. In Europe, the Niro is available in hybrid and a plug-in hybrid form only. The hybrid version is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine that produces 104 bhp of maximum power with 147 Nm of top torque along with it gets an electric motor of 32kW which produces a combined out of 139 bhp of power. Whereas, in the plugin-in hybrid it come with the same power figures and gives a range of 58km when on all electric system.

Kia Rio

The Rio first made its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and being on an all-new platform this the fourth generation of the model, where it gets an increased length by 15mm, making it 4384mm in length and wheelbase of 2580mm (up by 10mm). Though, Kia engineers reduce the width and height of the model to make the ride more balanced. In the international market, the Rio is available in both hatchback and sedan form and is powered by the 1.6-litre petrol engine that churns out 130 bhp with 148 Nm. The powertrain comes mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. While making its way to India, we can expect it to come powered with the diesel engine same as seen on the Hyundai Verna. Kia Rio once launch in India will compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and Volkswagen Vento.

Kia Sportage

Kia Sportage was recently spied in India and this compact SUV would definitely steal the eyes of the viewers at the upcoming Auto Expo. The Sportage comes in competition with the Hyundai Tucson, where both the models ride on the same wheel base of of 2670mm. In UK, the SUV is 5mm longer, 5mm wider and 25mm shorter than the Hyundai Tucson. Mechanically, the car is available in European market in both petrol and diesel engine options. In India, it will most likely to get Hyundai Creta’s 1.6-litre VTVT petrol engine and the 2.0-litre diesel engine of the Tucson, to keep its prices in check.

Kia Stonic

This small SUV was recently launched in European market and takes on the likes of the Ford EcoSport and others. Earlier, we informed you that Kia is readying a a sub 4-metre SUV for the Indian market and this product is a near perfect match for it. Though, it is slightly longer over 4m measuring 4140mm that can be chopped to make it into the under 4m category to keep a check on taxes. Internationally, the Stonic SUV is offered with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol, a 1.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.6-litre diesel.

Kia Stinger

Stinger is a four-door performance sedan from Kia’s stable that comes with a muscular hood with a bold front, sharp headlamps with LED daytime running lights, muscular front and rear overhangs and sloping roofline. In the American market, it is available in three engine options – a 2.0-litre petrol 244 bhp, a 2.2-litre diesel with 197 bhp and a 3.3-litre petrol engine that cranks out 365 bhp. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and the optional all-wheel drive as well .
