Mahindra recently christened its upcoming sub-4-metre SUV from S201 (Codename) to XUV300. The upcoming Mahindra XUV300 will enter in the sub-4 metre compact SUV segment in the Indian market. The Mahindra XUV300 launch date is out, as we reported earlier, and it is scheduled for February 15. Many dealers have also started accepting bookings for the new model unofficially at a token amount of Rs. 10,000. We have gathered more updates and here’s what you should know about the upcoming Mahindra XUV300.

Mahindra XUV300 2019 is built on the X100 platform, which is derived from SsangYong Tivoli’s platform. Though many around are thinking that the new XUV300 is a rebadged Tivoli by the home-grown carmaker, the Mahindra XUV300 images show that it is a lot different from the latter in terms of design. Mahindra has also made many tweaks to add the taste for the Indian buyers. Nonetheless, it does borrow the design cues from the bigger sibling Mahindra XUV500, and therefore seems more rough and tough product in its segment.

Mahindra XUV300 specifications will come powered with the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that also serves on the recently launched Mahindra Marazzo MPV. The engine is expected to make 121 bhp of maximum power with 300 Nm of top torque, whereas the transmission duties will be carried out by a 6-speed manual gearbox and same like the engine, this new transmission also made its debut with the MPV. And, if we compare Mahindra XUV300 with rivals like the Tata Nexon that makes 108 bhp with 260 Nm, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza that produces 89 bhp with 200 Nm and Ford EcoSport’s 99 bhp with 205 Nm, it’s the XUV300 that is more powerful of them all.

Moreover, the new XUV300 will also get a petrol engine option and is a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that will debut with the model, whereas the Tata Nexon gets a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit that makes 108 bhp with 170 Nm, while is offered with a diesel option only. On the other hand, Ford EcoSport is available in petrol options – a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit that produces 123 bhp with 170 Nm and a 1.5-litre engine that produces 121 bhp and 150 Nm of torque.

First-in-Segment Features

Mahindra XUV300 will come packed with many segment-first features that will also add a sense of premium-ness to the model. It will be the first model in its segment to come with seven airbags and all four disc brakes and speaking of the safety, you will also be offered with rear parking sensors, ABS and ESP. As we mentioned earlier that the model is based on the Tivoli-derived platform, we can expect it to get premium quality materials along with the comfort level of the passengers. It will get features like large a touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, cruise control and, not to forget, a sunroof that will be offered on the top-end variant.

Coming to the Mahindra XUV300 exterior bits, the upcoming compact SUV would ride on 17-inch alloys for the higher variants and the car will also come packed as an upmarket product with LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights and the rear too will boast of LED lamps.

Mahindra XUV300 compact SUV will enter in the sub-4 metre category in India and will pounce against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon. Though Mahindra earlier tried to mark its way through some of its past launches like with NuvoSport and the TUV300, it couldn’t manage eye to lure the buyers.

Mahindra XUV300 price in India is expected to be between Rs. 8 to 11 lakh, while its competitions like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is priced between Rs. 7.58 to 10.55 lakh, while the Tata Nexon starts from Rs. 6.23 lakh and the range goes up to Rs. 10.67 lakh and talking about Ford EcoSport price, it starts from Rs. 7.82 and goes a little higher than Mahindra’s range at Rs. 11.89 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
