Maintenance guide - How to maintain the value of the car?

Snapshot: Here are some basic steps on how to maintain the value of your car.

Car is considered to be an essential part of our daily life. When you're commuting to work or going to the market, you don't think much about maintaining the car's value. However, when you plan to sell or exchange the car you could be in a shock. The car's value is much lower than the price you expect. Therefore it is important to maintain the value of your car if you wish to protect the investment you have made. Here are some easy steps on how to maintain the value of your car.

Why is value considered important
Value of any investment is important. Therefore maintaining the value of the car is essential to get the best resale value. Keep the car in top condition to increase the value.

Keep the car well-serviced
Make sure you get the car serviced as per the maintenance schedule. Regular car care helps avoiding unnecessary, last minute repairs. Keeping your car well-serviced will not only be appreciated by potential buyers but some buyers may pay more than expected.

Avoid excessive mileage
Try to use the car only for important trips. Use public transport when possible. One can consider using a rental car if you are planning to go on a long trip. Avoiding excessive mileage can increase the value of the car considerably.

Avoid extreme wear and tear
Wear and tear of your cat can lower the value of the car. It is better to avoid unnecessary wear and tear if you want to maintain the value. Keep your car clean from inside and out. Get your car washed regularly.

Treat the car as an investment
Depreciation of any valuable good is expected, but one can always make an effort to increase the value by treating it as an investment. One can limit on who drives the car, or watch where it is being park, or take any necessary steps to protect the car and its value.

Stop eating, or smoking in the car
Eating or smoking inside the car can leave a lasting smell. This can result in lowering the car's resale value significantly.

Avoid accidents and collisions
Accidental cars get the least resale value. If your car has met with an accident or collision, get your car repaired from a reputed body shop. Be honest and inform the buyer about major repairs done to the car.

Store the car carefully
If you are not using your car for a longer period of time, it is better to store it to prevent any kind of damage. If you have a garage, store the car there. Storing your car outside can cause damage due to extreme weather conditions. Too much sun can cause car's paint and interiors to fade, and extremely cold weather can affect the engine.

Maintain car records
Keep an auto log to record your fuel fill ups and mileage. If you notice that your fuel mileage worsens, take your car to service station and get it check thoroughly.

Change the oil frequently
Get the car oil changed regularly. This is one of the best step to maintain the value of the car. If the oil is not changed frequently, it can lead to expensive repair work.
