A biker takes great pride in whizzing away on his cool bike. A new trendy looking bike can get that envious look from most of the youngsters around. However, what if your new stylish motorcycle loses the sheen of its glossy paint or gets an ugly scratch on it? It is time to know how to take care of the paint job on your motorcycle to keep it looking new and shiny. Here are some easy to follow simple tips to care for and protect your motorcycle paint:

Keep it thoroughly clean
A motorcycle is exposed to a lot of harsh element when you ride it through various extreme climatic and road conditions. Thus, your precious bike gets covered in a lot of dust, dirt, grime and muck. Ensure that your bike is thoroughly kept clean at all times. If the dirt and grime are left unattended for long, then these can damage the bike paint’s sheen or scratch it. Thus, make it a point to wash the bike every day, or whenever you had had a long, hard ride to protect your bike’s paint and overall body.

Pamper it by polishing it
While a thorough wash will ensure that the accumulated dirt don’t get to eat into your motorcycle’s paint job, to make your bike sparkle nicely you can pamper it with some wax. A good polishing can retain your bike’s paint for longer and make it shine to its best. A good layer of wax polish is also the best way to protect the motorcycle paint from the effect of the harsh elements, as a wax layer acts like a protective shield. Good polishing will also ensure that your bike remains cleaner for longer as dust and grime particles do not get to cling onto the bike’s paint work and gets cleaned very easily. Apart from polishing the paint, also polish the plastic parts of your bike using a good quality dashboard polish. This will ensure overall protection of the bike paint from the damaging effects of dust, rain and sun and also make your bike stay gleaming.

Don’t leave the scratches unattended
Even after being very careful and protective about your bike, your bike’s paint will get inevitably scratched sooner or later. Don’t just get sad about those ugly scratches and immediately try to mend it to avoid further damage or rusting. Several scratch removers are available in the market to mend minor scratches very effectively, while rubbing compounds come into action for the deeper and nastier scratches. Transparent films are also available in the market that you can cut into the required shapes and apply it on your bike to protect the paint and avoid scratches.

Keep it covered
If you leave your bike parked in open areas, then the best way to protect it from the damaging elements is to cover it with a bike cover. This will also protect from the paint fading effects of the sun.
