Marcus Walz tributes F1 legend Ayrton Senna
Snapshot: Marcus Walz had created a limited edition Moto Guzzi Le Mans, to honor Senna, on the twentieth anniversary of his death at the Imola circuit.
It might be a bit out of the league for the bike aficionados to know about the great Ayrton Senna and we completely understand it. To give a brief about this chap, he is widely considered as the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time, so much so, that in his home country, Brazil, he is considered a Saint. He was the last driver to die during an F1 race in the year 1994. But why are we featuring him? Because of the obvious reason we all are here, a motorcycle!
Formula 1 racers are known for their love towards motorcycles and they have a personal garage with some beautiful machines. Lewis Hamilton, Jensen Button, Mark Webber, and Michael Schumacher are all two-wheeled aficionados and many enjoy customizing their bikes too. Certain Marcus Walz, a German builder and a motorcycle racer, is behind many customs owned by the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Räikkönen, David Coulthard and Gerhard Berger.
As you can imagine, his work is very much in the premier league and so is he a known face at the F1 pit lanes. Marcus Walz had created a limited edition Moto Guzzi Le Mans, to honor Senna, on the twentieth anniversary of his death at the Imola circuit. Walz has created three Senna tribute bikes based on the 1970s Moto Guzzis from the Le Mans Mark 'I' series.
The bikes are completely rebuilt with custom bodywork finished in the colors inspired by Senna’s famous helmet designs and Brazilian flag. The custom sheet used is a 1.5 millimeter aluminium, reducing the weight to around 175kg. The Moto Guzzi’s famous sweet-handling frame is reworked so much so that it is even better than the factory finish.
The mechanicals are also completely changed with the engine being reworked to 1040cc as against the earlier 850cc, and it now delivers 90hp. The suspension duties are done by new fork tubes upfront and YSS Z-Series shocks at rear. Brembo two-piston calipers are used at the both ends and the rearsets are hand-fabricated and fully adjustable with the clip-on bars being imported from high-end German specialist LSL.
