Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is now available with a 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine and it’s the same engine that was first introduced with the Ciaz facelift in India last year. With the introduction of the new 1.5-litre diesel engine version, it is quite obvious that the new 1.5-litre diesel Maruti Suzuki Ertiga price will be higher than the one offered with 1.3-litre, however, the company will offer the latter one as well. It’s been more than a decade that Maruti Suzuki is making use of the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine, which is Fiat-sourced. In India, it’s the Toyota Innova Crysta that forays on the MPV segment, and then Mahindra Marazzo made its entry, so these are the quite fine rivals for the new diesel Ertiga. Dimension
No changes have been made to the dimensions; the Ertiga still is the compact of all the other models listed here. The wheelbase of the Ertiga falls short by 20 mm and 10 mm, Mahindra’s Marazzo and Toyota’s Innova Crysta, respectively, where it gets a measurement of 2740 mm. If we talk about the luggage space, the Ertiga and Marazzo both go neck in neck against each other with less than 200 litres capacity, and being the largest of all here; the Innova Crysta takes the edge with a capacity of 300 litres. Speaking of the width, it’s the Marazzo that takes on its other counterparts here. But a point to be noted here is that the new Ertiga is spacious than its predecessor.

Engine
Afore we mentioned that the Ertiga is now available with a new 1.5-litre diesel unit, making its way directly against the Marazzo MPV, however, the Ertiga MPV will continue to be offered with a 1.3-litre unit. The new 1.5-litre DDiS diesel motor develops 94 bhp of maximum power with 225 Nm of top torque, whereas the older 1.3-litre offering makes 89 bhp with 200 Nm. On the other hand, Mahindra Marazzo belts out 121 bhp of power with 300 Nm of peak torque. Surely, the power figures of the Mahindra’s MPV is higher than the Ertiga, but the latter returns a good fuel efficiency of 24.20 kmpl, compared to 17.3 kmpl fuel economy of the Marazzo. Though we are talking about the diesel engines only, here apart from the Marazzo others are available with a petrol engine as well.

Being the biggest of them all, be it size or engine, the Innova Crysta has edge over others, but the buyer has to think about the fuel efficiency, where it returns 15.1 kmpl with the 2.4-litre engine and 14.29 kmpl with the 2.8-litre unit.
Coming to the transmission duties, the new Ertiga 1.5-litre diesel variant is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox same like the Marazzo and the Ertiga 1.3-litre diesel engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
