Now, Renault Kwid has a challenge on its hands, as Maruti Suzuki, the highest selling carmaker in India, introduces a similar SUV-inspired model in the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

This comparison shows that both cars are almost similar in many ways. The Renault Kwid is longer and broader than the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso but is around 86mm shorter. The ground clearance of both these micro-SUVs is about 180mm, much less than what a standard SUV has. Wheelbases and fuel tank capacities are almost the same. A comparison of the engines and transmissions shows the extent of competition with both the vehicles matching each other in almost all respects. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso made its grand entry with the BS-VI compliant version of the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 engine. The same engine does a credible job in the BS-IV version in other models like Maruti Suzuki Alto, WagonR, and Celerio. This 1.0L petrol engine displays a power of 68hp and a maximum torque of 90Nm. 

As far as transmission systems are concerned, both the cars offer a 5-speed manual or AMT versions. The Renault has an additional variant in the form of an 800cc engine with a manual transmission system in its standard option.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso delivers 21.4 kmpl for both the automatic and manual transmission systems. One can expect this figure to drop because of the shift to BS-VI emission norms. The Renault Kwid Facelift does well in this segment with a performance of 23.04kmpl in the manual version and 24.04kmpl with the automatic transmission system.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso has a slight advantage because all its variants come with a 1.0L engine, whereas the Renault Kwid Facelift has four of its options with a comparatively weaker 0.8L engine. However, there is not much to choose from when it comes to the high-end models of both these cars. On the pricing front, Renault Kwid has a sub-3 lakh car, as well that is not available with the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.
