The all-new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift is all set to make its official debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. It is the updated version of the old Swift with several notable changes in the styling and features. The pre-bookings for the next-gen Swift has already been officially opened by the manufacturer.
The third generation Maruti Swift will be up against the likes of Ford Figo, Hyundai Grand i10 and Tata Tiago. With a new design philosophy, premium features and slightly more efficient powertrains, it is believed to be the market leader once again in the hatchback segment. Let’s go ahead and see what tweaks the new Swift gets over the old one.
Exterior & Colour
The new Swift is built on the fifth generation ‘HEARTECT’ platform, which not only makes it lighter than before but also provides comprehensive updates on the exterior design. With more mature styling, the new model gets a sportier stance than before.
The most significant tweaks made in the design of the car include new projector headlights with L-shaped daytime running LEDs, reframed bumper with newly designed fog lamps and hexagonal mesh grille with chrome garnish. The wheelbase has grown longer than before by 20mm and the boot size also gets more space now.
The all-new Swift model now rides on the new set of alloy wheels and gets an additional colour option of Prime Lucent Orange, besides the existing five paint schemes - Prime Midnight Blue, Met Silky Silver, SLD Fire Red, Pearl Arctic White and Met Magma Grey.
Interior & Features
The 2018 Swift gets a completely refreshed interior, which looks more premium and sportier than before. Apart from these, it also gets several major additions to the feature list over the predecessor to offer you a comfortable and more convenient riding experience.
It gets an all-black interior theme, new dashboard layout and the steering wheel now gets multiple functions to perform with several buttons mounted on it. It now gets a new 7-inch infotainment system with the compatibility of MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
For safety, the car equips dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX and brake assist as standard features.
Engine, Transmission and Mileage
The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift will get the same engine mechanism with the options of 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel units under the hood, but in a slightly tuned state to deliver better performance than before. Currently, the petrol version produces a maximum power of 84 bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque, while the diesel unit churns out 75 bhp of maximum power against a peak torque of 190 Nm. Besides the existing five-speed manual transmission option, the high-end variants will get the option of AMT as well.
The outgoing Swift renders a claimed mileage of 18 kmpl for the petrol and 23 kmpl for the diesel version. Now, with the new Swift getting an aerodynamic design and improved suspension system, it is set to deliver improved fuel-efficiency.
The Swift is now even more swift
The Maruti Suzuki Swift has been among the hot favourite hatchbacks in the country from the time it first made its appearance. The next-gen Swift brings more maturity in styling, additional features and improved fuel-efficiency. It brings along the changes that are highly appreciable and is like what a modern car must be. It has grown in almost every department and the new model seems to have taken a huge leap from the previous gen model. The 14th biennial event in the country is expected to witness the all-new Swift leave a thumping mark and take the glory of the brand to the next level.
