MotoGP - Arm Pump Surgery for Pol Espargaro
Snapshot: All in the Family! Both Espargaro brothers undergo surgeries for their respective injuries!!
Both the Espargaro brothers had a rather tough weekend at the Le Mans race, where the elder brother Aleix Espargaro suffered a massive highside at 200kmph during FP3 while his younger brother had been suffering sporadic problems with arm pump for some time now. Now, Pol's management team has announced that Pol has had surgery on his right arm to fix a problem with arm pump. The Monster Tech 3 Yamaha rider was operated on in Madrid by Dr. Angel Villamor, widely regarded as one of the top authorities on treating compartment syndrome, and the surgeon who treated Dani Pedrosa.
Initially not thought of being such a severity, Pol has had undergone extensive physiotherapy after the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez to try to treat the condition, but a more severe attack during the race in Le Mans, where the Tech 3 rider suffered a severe lack of strength in his right arm from Lap 7 of the French GP onwards, and this had been the deciding factor.
Pol's doctor has declared the surgery to have gone well and Pol would be examined at the end of the week for recovery. Regarding the surgery Pol has said, “in reality, I had noticed this feeling in my forearms several times before, but never gave it too much importance. But in the last two races it was a bit worse. In Jerez, I put it down to the type of track and the effort I had used in the first laps trying to follow Lorenzo and Marquez, and then Rossi and Crutchlow, but in Le Mans it was worse, because it affected my riding very quickly.” He continued further stating that the decision to undergo surgery as quickly as possible was made, so that he had as much time as possible to recover ahead of the next race at Mugello scheduled for end of May.
For the Espargaro fmily it has been a week of tough races and then medical conditions, as both Espargaro brothers have undergone surgery, Pol for his above mentioned arm pump issue and Aleix had undergone surgery to fix ligaments he tore in the massively scary highside crash in FP3 at Le Mans.
