New Honda City – Which variant to buy?

Snapshot: It's more than just a nip-and-tuck job and the City now gets more features. So which variant should you go with? Read to find out more

Honda might be calling it the All New City, but we know that it isn’t. Still the nip-and-tuck job makes the car look fresh, and the added goodies should manage to keep it onto the radar of prospective buyers for some more time to come. It's slicker than ever before and you get some of the most coveted features like DRLs, paddle shifters, sunroof etc. So which variant should you go with? We find out.

Exteriors and Dimensions

While all variants may measure the same, there are differences that set them apart. The S, SV and V variants get dual barrel headlamps at the front while higher VX and ZX get LED headlamps. LED DRLs though, find place in all the variants including base. You are likely to recognise ZX from the rest of the crowd as it gets a distinctive LED rear combi lamp while all other variants get only bulbs.

Front fog lamps are of the halogen type in case of the V. VX and ZX get LED fog lights while S and SV miss them altogether. Integrated LED turn indicators are present in case of all variants except the S. Rear spoiler with integrated stop-light can be found only in case of the ZX. One of the most loved features of the City, sunroof, can be had only with VX and ZX.

Safety

The City offers two airbags, ISOFIX mount, ABS and EBD as standard, and a total of 6 airbags with the top variant, making it one of the best equipped cars in terms of safety.

Other features that you get as standard include – ECU immobilizer with anti-theft security alarm, rear windshield defogger and driver Seatbelt, door ajar and trunk open indicators.

Audio and Infotainment

 The top of the line variants, ZX, VX and V get a 17.7cm capacitive touchscreen that offers turn-by-turn navigation. In addition it also doubles up as display for park assistance rear-view camera and offers 1.5 GB storage. The unit also integrates a Wi Fi USB receiver that you can use to browse internet on the go. You also get support for voice recognition, steering mounted controls with 8 speakers and 2 USB ports for charging.

Lower variants offer an 8.9 cm LCD screen with basic audio system with support for Aux-in and Bluetooth with 4 speakers. There’s only one USB port for charging with the variants and only SV gets steering mounted controls, base variant S does not offer controls for music system.

Comfort and Convenience Features

A fully automatic climate control system with rear AC vents is offered with all variants except the base, S, which offers manual air conditioning and no AC vents for rear passengers. Keyless entry, Start/Stop button are available with all variants except S and SV.

Cruise control, power folding mirrors, height adjustment for driver seat can be found on all variants expect the base S variant.

Engine and Transmission

The City comes with the same engine options as before with exact power and torque figures. Both engines continue to impress in terms of mileage figures. While petrol promises a figure around 17.5kmpl, diesel claims to deliver 25kmpl.

Option of diesel is not available with the base variant S, you can take CVT with V, VX and ZX. With the CVT gearbox you also get 7 speed paddle shifters this time around.
