Nissan has been hailing to get its global line-up in the Indian market; the company has finally unveiled one of its global product – Nissan Kicks in India. The Nissan Kicks India launch is expected on January 22. The car will directly pounce against segment’s best-seller - Hyundai Creta and also Renault Captur. Expect it to get a starting price of Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 14 lakh, as the Kicks will come as a premium SUV in the company’s model range. Here are a few things that you should know about the upcoming Nissan Kicks SUV.
The Nissan Kicks is based on the M0 platform, which also underpins the Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and Captur. Being built on this platform simply translates more interior space for the occupants. Nonetheless, the new SUV will be a premium offering by Nissan. Nissan will localize the manufacturing of Kicks’ spare parts, which means that the Nissan Kicks price in India will be quite competitive.
It is not just the platform that the new Kicks will share with its sibling rival Renault Duster, but also the set of powertrain. The new premium SUV will be offered in both petrol and diesel options. The diesel variant of the Kicks will come packed with the 1.5-litre K9K dCi engine that makes 108 bhp of peak power with 240 nm of top torque, and the petrol version would get 1.5-litre H4K unit that produces 105 bhp of maximum power along with a torque figure of 142 Nm. For the transmission duties, initially, Nissan will offer a 5-speed manual for the petrol version, whereas the diesel variant will transmit its power through a 6-speed manual gearbox. Expect the automatic transmission to be introduced at later stages. Watch the Nissan Kicks First Drive Review to get an idea of the performance of the car.
Bigger in Size
The one that will be launched in India will surely have the same design as seen on the international-spec one but will be bigger by its dimensions and hence the size. The one sold abroad is offered as a crossover, whereas the India-spec version will be bigger and will be sold as compact SUV to directly rival against Hyundai Creta. Dimensionally, the Nissan Kicks in India will measure 4,384 mm in overall length, 1,813 mm in width, 1,656 mm in height with roof rails and 2,673 mm in wheelbase, making it longer, wider, taller and even with a longer wheelbase, bigger than the version sold abroad. The Nissan Kicks interior will be roomier than the international model along with some re-jigging done to the dashboard design. The India-spec Nissan will get almost the same steering, but there is still a difference, which is that the one to be introduced here in India will not get a flat-bottom steering wheel. You will get dual-pot analogue dials (Tachometer and fuel gauge) and a digital display for the speedometer, and it will be different from the international spec that has a digital tachometer along with MID and an analogue speedometer. The centre console design and AC control layout will also be different. The positioning of the AC vents will be changed as well.
Nissan Kicks features will include some segment-first features like a floating 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, where its rivals get a 7-inch touchscreen display, and a 360-degree camera view. The new compact SUV will also get other features such as Eco mode, hill start assist, cruise control, vehicle dynamic control, cornering Fog Lamps, etc., to name a few.
