Recalled - Yamaha Alpha for Faulty Engine Cylinder Ring!!

The Alpha is Yamaha’s third scooter offering to the Indian consumers., after Ray and the Jazzier version of Ray, the Ray Z. Launched in 2014, Alpha has a  113cc single–cylinder, 4-stroke scooter motor which produces a decent power of 7 hp of power and 8.1 Nm of torque.

According to a TeamBHP member, Yamaha Motor India has recalled its Alpha scooter over faulty engine cylinder head O-ring. The faulty part is said to have an oil leakage issue and for the same Yamaha is taking the corrective measures. According to reports Yamaha Motor India would be contacting the customers to replace the faulty unit. The replacement of the cylinder head o-ring is likely to take three hours.

The Alpha from Yamaha is their latest offering in the scooter segment and and competes with the TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa scooters. It is powered by a 113cc, air-cooled motor which generates 7 HP of power and 8.1 Nm of torque, matched to a CVT gearbox which Yamaha likes to call V-belt automatic. Sharing many of its mechanicals with the Ray, the Alpha is targeted at male buyers who aren’t college going because for them there is the Ray Z. The Alpha weighs 104 kgs.

Yamaha has big plans for 2015 and will finally shift back focus to motorcycles. The company does plan to launch a 125cc scooter but before that we will see the Yamaha R25 go on sale, priced at around Rs. 3 lakhs. Moreover, there is also that mythical $500 bike being developed by Yamaha that should also b coming in 2015.
