On 28th of May, Royal Enfield inaugurated its flagship gear store in Khan Market, Delhi. Fifth of its kind in the country, the store houses riding gear and apparel by the bikemaker. The Madras-based (okay, Chennai based) company which has its roots in the UK, also used the opportunity to introduce a new range of biking apparel, to suit both riding and everyday usage. And not just that, three special editions based on the Classic 500 were also announced, more on which later.
Based in Khan Market – the prime location for tasteful shopping in Delhi – it’s beautifully decorated with the company’s history adorning the walls, a Continental GT dissembled and hung on one wall, and nice drop-down lighting made using RE’s headlamps.
The new apparel and gear range is, much like the special-ed bikes, inspired by dispatch riders of World Wars, who rode their Enfields over horrendous (more often than not) terrain to transmit information. From cool-looking T-shirts to sneakers, duffle bags, and leather wallets, there’s something to lure not just bikers but also the fashionable ‘junta’.
And lastly, the special edition bikes, which, as mentioned above are inspired by dispatch riders, will be offered in three paint choices: Squadron Blue Dispatch, Desert Storm Dispatch, and Battle Green Dispatch. The last of these, understandably, won’t be available in the Indian market. Based on the Classic 500, the special edition bikes will have a limited run of 200 units each, will go on sale on July 15, and in another breakthrough move by RE, will be made only on Royal Enfield’s online outlet: store.royalenfield.com
Prices for the bikes are yet to be announced, and over the standard Classic, these include the use of genuine Italian leather for the seat, leather strap on battery cover, and a matte-black finish on parts include the engine, gearbox, silencer, and indicators. There’s also a camouflage paint scheme, which adds to the look and will complete the look without really trying too hard.
As for future plans, the company is working on two platforms, and given that nothing tremendous has happened since the arrival of the Continental GT – arguably the best modern day RE – it’ll be interesting to see what the future has in store of the market. And for the RE owner, enthusiast, and anyone who appreciates good things in life, the Khan Market store has a lot to offer.
