Snapshot: The growth in the Scooter market in the country is bringing more premium products to the country, and we like it!!
Scooter market in the country has seen a growth in previous years, with manufacturers like Honda and TVS enjoying sales growth and great demand by customers for their scooter segment offerings the trend seems to be only going forward. In recent years we have also seen the arrival of the Iconic Scooter manufacturer Vespa to our shores, with their offerings being build with impeccable style and quality, but these has priced the Vespa's to be priced at a considerable premium over its rivals. However, the interest among the customers to shell out money for Iconic products like the Vespa's has been increasing.
Yamaha, also came with their scooter offerings in the segment like, Yamaha Ray, and has seen decent sales volume coming in from the model and its variants. Now, it seems that Yamaha is up for a little fight in the growing premium scooter segment, and has started testing its premium scooter D'elight in India. The D’elight is an urban commuter currently sold in the European markets as a competitor to Vespa’s retro styled scooters. The classic lines of the scooter and its low seat height certainly earns it a top spot with the fashionistas. With its small wheelbase, it is an ideal commuter tool for riding in our traffic congested city roads. The scooter weighs in at a feathery 98 kg making it quite nimble for city use, while packing a 114 cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces a respectable 7.2 PS of power and 7.6 Nm of torque.
The D’elight is still under testing, which means that there is no nearby launch date for the scooter. If Yamaha decides to launch it, expect a price of about Rs 70,000, ex-Showroom.
