Industrialists in India (like anywhere else in the world) possess an intoxicating combination of high living, which naturally extends to the automobiles they drive – or get driven in. The taste levels of the high-heeled would approve nothing less than vintage, limited editions or super cars. Up ahead, we tell you, what these masters of classy things are driven around in.
Leading the brigade is Raymond head Gautam Singhania. He is not the chairman of India's only Super Car Club for naught. For the man, opulent automobiles are his religion. And going by his treasury of ‘only cars in India’, he certainly isn’t worshipping the wrong god. To begin with, he has a BMW M3 CSL – an E46 that he uses exclusively for track days and specifically drifting! The guy who adores the thrill of motorsports also has a Lamborghini Aventador LP570-4 and a Gallardo Superlegerra, a Ferrari 458 ‘Challenge Stradale’ – one of only three cars in India, a Nissan Skyline GTR which is capable of nearly 800 BHP, a Honda S2000 and finally what must be the crowning glory of his collection, the Ariel Atom – one of the fastest accelerating cars in the world! Hang on – did we forget to mention the quirky Lotus Elise that he owns as well??
Next up is another rich Indian – in fact the richest Indian in the world, worth over $21 billion according to Forbes, Reliance Industries Limited’s Mukesh Ambani; whose Mumbai residence apparently has park space for 168 cars! We say, his epic life story should also have a chapter on his cars. The man gets driven in iconic Maybach 62, while he also has a Bentley Flying Spur and a Rolls-Royce Phantom. He also owned an Aston Martin Rapide, which son Akash totaled last year?
The younger of the two Ambani brothers, Anil Ambani, Chairman of Reliance ADA Group has fortunes worth $8 billion according to Forbes. This business magnet is no less an enthusiast than his elder brother when it comes to owning mean machines and he owns a Lamborghini Gallardo in yellow. Joining it in his stables are a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a Porsche Panamera and some ‘pedestrian’ cars like Mercedes S class, Range Rovers etc. etc.! There is a SL500 from Mercedes in his collection as well, besides a Lexus LX570 SUV.
The clichéd king of good times and Chairman of the UB Group Vijay Mallya, flaunts his flamboyance and style with gusto. He adores vintage (has a Rolls Royce silver Ghost of 1913 make) and old world charm in everything. Most of his collection comprises of classics like a BMW M1, Chevrolet Corvette, Ferrari 365 California Spyder, Jaguar Sport XJR 15 and many others. He has a love for Bentleys and in the United Kingdom, his cars have a registration mark B0053 MAN – didn’t get it? Written together it reads ‘Boozeman’!
Being the head of a world renowned automobile manufacturing company Ratan Tata is definitely seriously into cars. Apart from consuming luxuries out of his own factory, the businessman owns a host of other classy cars. Naming a few from his retinue are, a Mercedes SL500, a Cadillac XLR, Ferrari California (powered by front-mid mounted gasoline direct injection and a price tag of Rs 2.2 crore), a Maserati Quattroporte and a Chrysler Sebring.
In all the cars we mentioned belonging to the top guys as written above, do remember that they change their collections at will and what these guys have today, they may sell and acquire something else tomorrow – because they can! Also, we have avoided mentioning cars like the S-Class, BMW 7-series or Audi A8. After all these vehicles are owned by many ‘commoners’ today!
