Suzuka ready to take on the Dirt-y Indian market

Snapshot: Suzuka Racing Motorcycles (SRM) is all set to launch three models in India that will never get to see or feel the Indian tarmac. The models which fall under the 225-300 cc category won't be street legal and are meant to be used only in the motorsport world

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the name isn't a typo. It surely is a bike manufacturer from Japan though that specialises in making potent off-roaders that will let you defy gravity without burning a hole in your pocket.

Available in three variants, the Suzuka bikes will encourage the enthusiasts to nurture their talent without chopping their Karizmas or Suzukis, and compete in a rally or get busy on a dirty weekend.

The first free spirit from the stable is the nimble SRM 250AC that has a 223 cc, two valve, air-cooled engine that delivers 16.3 PS at 7,000 rpm, and a peak torque of 17.5 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The 5 speed gear box takes to it a whopping 120 kmph, and the hydraulic damping type suspension clubbed with 21" and 18" of wheels at front and rear respectively and 300 mm of ground clearance ensures that nothing hits its belly as you enjoy some mud-slinging.

The next sibling from the same parents - SRM 250WC - does not possess any special power except that it stays cooler than the 250AC with its liquid-cooled engine. So, they both should perform equally good on a winter afternoon, I assume.

The eldest brother - SRM 250 - flaunts a 250 cc, four valve, liquid-cooled engine that churns out a power of 22.5 PS at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 20 Nm at 7,000 rpm. The bike weighs 116.5 kg, just 2 kgs heavier than it's younger siblings and takes you to a top-speed of 135 kmph, which is too ambitious even for the Indian tarmac, forget the dirt.

ABS is standard on all these three machines at the rear wheel, whereas the front wheel gets its help only from the disc brake in all the three variants.

The ex-showroom price is also the on-road price for these three gravel eating monsters as you don't need to pay any road tax. However, the prices are:

SRM 250AC  - Rs. 3.4 lakhs* (Pune)

SRM 250WC - Rs. 3.45 lakhs* (Pune)

SRM 250 - Rs. 3.65 lakhs* (Pune)
